The President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari is not in hurry to make a major shake-up security chiefs but will immediately sack the National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd) and be replaced by a former Chief of Army Staff, General Abdulrahaman Dambazau, a source who pleaded anonymity disclosed

Contrary to the widely held belief that the nation’s security chiefs might be the first to be removed from office as soon as the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari takes over, his attention is on the EFCC and the ICPC.



According to source; “People are only being speculative on the issue of the service chiefs; you cannot just sack service chiefs the day you take over as president; there are routine processes to follow after some intelligence briefing. “Perhaps, those who make such speculations are not familiar with security and intelligence matters; they have forgotten that this is a democratic and political dispensation; it is not a military coup where all institutions are cleared off the road for a new one to suffice.”

He added that the ICPC may be led by either a former military governor of Kaduna State, Colonel Umar Dangiwa (rtd) or a former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abubakar Tsav. Besides, the source stated Buhari might not immediately remove service chiefs, adding that only

He said: ”A systematic purge in all major sectors will definitely follow, but the swiftest is mostly likely to be the immediate reshaping of the anti-corruption agencies within the first seven days of his swearing-in.”

“Yes, it is true the nation’s security apparatus has to be retooled and redirected in tune with the current fight against terrorism, but that cannot be within the first one week.

“Rather than do that, I am very sure that the first things likely to happen are the appointment of the new NSA as well as the heads of the EFCC and the ICPC. These are agencies the president intends to overhaul as soon as he comes into office within the first one week in office,” he said
