MUST A MINISTER BE POLITICIAN?

The Cabinet of Nigeria is the Executive Branch of the Government of Nigeria. The Cabinet members are appointed by the President and report to the President. The Cabinet oversees 19 Federal Ministries, each responsible for some aspect of providing government services, as well as a number of parastatals (government-owned corporations).

A government will usually have numerous ministries, each with a specialised field of providing public service.

But the bone of contention is if the Nominees must be politicians?

Today is the beginning of a new dispensation in Nigeria democratic governance under the leadership of President Muhammad Buhari. Nigerians are yearning for astronomical changes in all ramifications. Meanwhile, this is possible if the President surrounds himself with competent, intelligent, honest, purpose-driven, innovative, creative and patriotic subordinates as Ministers.

But the question is: Is it constitutional that the nominees must be politicians?
