Some of you guys need a little history lesson, it appears. Whatever you think of this young lady, she, more than any of the current wave of Nollywood faces, is responsible for this industry capturing the imagination of so many at home and abroad. Sure, there were others before her, but none of them had the magnetism that she brought to the screen, the true aura of a star (who didn't have to do anything to attract and command your attention on screen). Movies featuring her usually alongside the younger Ramsey Nouah were the greatest draws once upon a time (when video movies actually sold hundreds of thousands of tapes) and they did get a legion of folks (like the Mercy Johnson being hailed today) into the industry you all see today. We're just a people with incredibly short memory,

If history is written fairly, Genevieve Nnaji was synonymous with video movie heaven in Nigeria. She was and still is a goddess in some circles. When she started, some of you were still in high school sef and that may be why it is easy to forget. She practically single-handedly gave Nollywood the glamour and mystique it boasts today. And she has acted (whatever your understanding of acting is) her way into the history books and will be studied and analysed for many years to come, just for being in the forefront of this still gathering thunder. She may be a kid and may have made mistakes (that may be partly responsible for the way she's ridiculed and under-appreciated by some here and elsewhere, spreading stories often filled with untruths), but the fact is all the charismatic screen faces throughout time have stumbled sometime, from Marilyn Monroe to Angelina Jolie,

Accept it or not, Genevieve Nnaji's place in the history of Nollywood cannot be denied. Some threw money, others flexed technical muscles, but it was the innocent face of a Genevieve Nnaji caught up in those silly love stories that moved the most tapes and VCDs, that fueled the fantasy of boys in the unseen corners of their minds and turned every girl into a Nollywood wannabe,  And she's still going strong today! Truth is only a handful of people will reach the height she has reached at this young age, even if they devoted a lifetime to it. We don't appreciate our own in Nigeria and its a shame. I just stumbled on this 2003 article again and my fingers started talking, Ms. Nnaji, You go girl,
