I had to sit and ask myself if prostitution is dangerous to a Nation or rather an advantage.

After a short analysis I couldn't come up with any concrete threat prostitution poses to development in a Nation.

The only thing that came to mind was spread of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and I immediately faulted that with the fact that prostitutes embrace protected sex than non-prostitutes do.

My brief analysis also revealed that:

1. Prostitution is a source of employment

2. Prostitution has a quota it contributes to economic growth. The industry is bigger than most of us think

3. Prostitution helps to drastically reduce rape cases

4. Prostitutes pay tax in some nations

Erudite individuals, In what ways is prostitution a threat to development in our nation?

Caveat: I'm not a prostitute, neither am I their customer nor a sympathizer. I am just someone that loves learning and my analysis is simply one without any form of bias. I just tried to be objective with my analysis.

As to selling their bodies, I think that's a normal because we are all exchanging something for money.

I don't see the young girls thing as a concrete threat because young girls/boys are already exposed to some things they are not supposed to be exposed to. That issue will be tackled not only in terms of prostitution

Yes, you are right. But,

A teacher cannot transmit a disease with her brain.
A bodyguard/bouncer has to train for hours
A factory worker does not enjoy his job
A musician does not sell his or her voice only. He has to use his brain to compose songs.

Now, the reason why I do not like the concept of prostitution is that, it encourages sexual immorality and people who engage in the business have are greatly limited in making an impact.
I think the issue here is that of values. I am the kind of person that places huge value on giving to the world and having people remember you while you are gone. As such, it is understandable that I do not condone it. Another man may have a different opinion. But come on, a typical prostitute spends her whole day, having sex with various men! Such a pathetic situation. Don't you think?

At the end of the day, whether I support it or not, it will continue to exist. So, I'm veiwing this as a healthy debate

Prostitution is not a developmental threat to any nation. America, U.K have countless prostitútes, but yet they are a million miles ahead of us. So having prostitutes doesn't pose a threat to the growth of a nation.

However it poses a threat to the morality of a nation. Prostitution leads to moral decadence, high rate of abortion because let's face the truth, every prostitute won't be 100% protected. It increases the rate of dumped babies/orphans and STD's too. Some women will rather than read, study hard and make money, end up as prostitútes as a way of easy cash.

We now live in a decadent society where morality and discipline are overboard.

There are no objectively verifiable causes of moral decadence, one can only present few plausible explanations.

So the assertion that prostituton is the chief reason why sexual immorality is on the rise in every nation is lame.

Sex CDs are sold in public places, p0rn sites are there to be accessed, sex scenes are played out in virtually all movies, these and many more have contributed more to sexual immorality than prostitution.

As a matter of fact, moral decadence is a result of parental abandonment in the age of modern technology.

Most times, we take what we've learnt from home to the street, not the other way round.

A prostitute cares about your morality, she doesn't force you to step into the brotel and do business wth her, it's your choice to make.

If there are agences who have contributed more to moral decadency, then it has to be corrupted governmental offices, organisations of abortion services, terrorist groups, gambling organisations etc

On a brighter note, estimates place the revenue generated by prostitution worldwde to be over $100 billion, now that's something to cheer about
