All Polytechnics And Colleges Of Education In Osun State To Embark On An Indefin by harbdulrasaq88(m): 8:42pm On Jun 02, 2015 |
The academic staff unions of the Osun State-owned Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, said it will begin an indefinite strike on June 11. The unions are protesting against illegal deductions from their salaries, penal interests on bank loans, non-payment of salaries for the past 7 months, installmental payment of salaries, and non-payment of leave bonuses since December 2013, amongst others. The union had earlier embarked an a warning strike on January 27, calling on the government to act. The group’s secretary, Olusegun Lana, said all members of the union will suspend their functions, till further notice. He said the strike will end when the Council of Academic Staff Unions of Osun State-Owned Tertiary Institutions (comprising Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics [ASUP], Iree and Esa-Oke chapters and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union [COEASU], Ilesa and Ila-Orangun chapters) direct otherwise. “It is unfortunate that Government did not deem it fit to reply any of our correspondences or initiate any action whatsoever to address the festering issues, let alone resolve the issues till date,” he said. Mr.Lana said due to the government’s repeated failure on some clauses in the existing Collective Agreements over the past four years, the union reserves the right not to sign any “promissory Agreement” with the State Government on certain issues plaguing the sector. “We have demonstrated great sense of endurance and patriotism by continuing to work under the extremely painful and uncertain conditions created by the unresolved issues for so long,” he said. Mr. Lana noted that the union remain empathetic with the students who will suffer most during strike. http://www.edificationinfo.com/2015/06/breaking-news-all-polytechnics-and.html |
