Dogara Lied, His Supporters Were Aware Of APC Mock Election – Gbajabiamila by sultan457: 6:42pm On Jun 08, 2015
The campaign organisation of the 8th Assembly
Speaker hopeful, Femi Gbajabiamila, has denied that
supporters of Yakub Dogara, his contender, were not
aware of the mock election organised by the
leadership of the All Progressives Congress on
Saturday.
Mr. Dogara, through his group, had accused the APC
leadership of fraud in the process of organising the
mock election and attempting to foist Mr.
Gbajabiamila on the legislators-elect, thereby
allowing “the number four citizen of this country to
be pocketed by one selfish and greedy individual”.
However, Mr. Gbajabiamila’s speakership campaign
organisation on Monday, said though no group loyal
to the contenders were placed on notice before the
election, a newspaper publication showed the
Consolidation group were aware of the mock
election.
Mr. Gbajabiamila had also previously denied he is
contesting the speakership position to further the
political interest of Bola Tinubu, believed to be the
one referred to as “selfish and greedy individual” by
the Consolidation group.
The campaign organisation said “Just as the party
said earlier before the election, no group loyal to any
of the aspirants were placed on notice. It is
important to note that in a publication made in the
National dailies on Thursday, June 4, 2015, two days
before the mock election, Hon Zakari Mohammed,
Hon Aishat Dukku, Hon Jagaba Adams Jagaba, Hon
Haliru Jika, Hon Nasiru Baballe Ila, and others in the
public statement emphasized clearly their views on
the conduct of the Saturday mock election.
“The publication is here for your attention.
Definitely, they could not have made comments on
an exercise they were not aware of. It is unfortunate
that some members sought for intervention of the
party before their election into the national assembly
but suddenly realised that the unbiased intervention
of the party in the mock election is inappropriate,”
the statement read.
“In furtherance to the genuine aspiration of Hon.
Femi Gbajabiamila, it is appropriate for us to be
magnanimous in victory and extend our hand of
fellowship to the sixteen of our colleagues who
purportedly left the venue as a result of their claim
of unpreparedness for the mock election. We are
indeed grateful that some of them voluntarily
returned back to the hall to be part of the successful
election,” the statement added.
Mr. Gbajabiamila’s campaign organisation said he
had received support from other parties, including
the Peoples Democratic Party, whose block support is
expected to determine who the eventual winner on
Tuesday.
Mr. Dogara needs a united support from the PDP
representatives to clinch the speakership position,
since majority of the APC representatives have
publicly pledged support for his counterpart, Mr.
Gbajabiamila, who just needs around 25 to 40
opposition representatives to secure the position.
Continuing, Mr. Gbajabiamila said, “Had Hon. Dogara
won the mock election we would have all queued
behind him now but as a mark of discipline and
respect for the party we are all behind Hon. Femi
Gbajabiamila.
“We have reached out to our friends in other
political parties and we are thankful by their
popular response. We also agree that the next
speaker of the 8th House of Representatives would
emerge on the floor of the house on Tuesday and
definitely members across party lines would place
merit first because this is the era of change we have
been waiting for,” the statement read.

Whether they want or not Gbajabiamila is the next speaker of the house or reps and Saraki is the senate president.
