The Enugu State Police Command is investigating one Obinna Okonkwo over an allegation that his wife, Uchenna, committed suicide.

The suicide was said to have taken place in the couple’s home in Orba, Nsukka Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesman of the State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said the suspicious nature of the incident prompted the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to launch investigations into the matter.

It was gathered that on May 25, 2015, the wife, Uchenna, 32, a banker, was found dead in the visitors’ room of their residence, with her body dangling from a rope.

But it was learnt that the deceased had unresolved issues with the husband, Obinna, before the incident.

Amaraizu explained that the circumstances surrounding the death portrayed it as questionable hence foul play was suspected.

In the meantime, the deceased corpse has been deposited at the mortuary of Bishop Shanaham Hospital, Nsukka.

It is expected that the corpse will be subjected to an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the husband to the deceased is helping the police in the ongoing investigations.

In another development, three suspected cultists were arrested by the operatives of 9th Mile Division of the Nigeria Police Force, Enugu State Command.

The suspects were identified as Eze Joseph, Uchenna Nwankwo and Eric Erikume, all said to be 21 years old.

It was gathered that the suspects were apprehended when the police stormed a hideout at Nsude Road, around 9th Mile, where they and other members of their group had gathered to initiate new members.

Amaraizu, who also confirmed the development, said the police was on the trail of other members of the group that escaped.

Weapons recovered from the gang include one pump action gun and several machetes while some materials suspected to be meant for the planned initiation ceremony was also recovered by the police.
