Veteran Journalist Crowned Monarch In Enugu Community by Amaudeogu(m): 12:57am On Jun 11, 2015
Nsukka — A veteran journalist, John Akor, has been crowned as the king of Nimbo Community in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, Akor, who worked with the defunct National Concord Newspapers, received his staff of office as the Agaba Idu of Nimbo, from the immediate past administration of Governor Sullivan Chime in his Nimbo Community through the then Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Pastor Emeka Abugu.

Presenting him with his warrant certificate and staff of office, Abugu said that the coronation was symbolic and unique for the fact that royal father occupied the kingship position (Eze) which was the most respected traditional authority in Igbo land before he received the certificate as the traditional ruler of Nimbo community.

Abugu also noted that the state government decided to coronate the royal father on the last day of its administration after eight years of good governance to mark the end of a successful tenure which was anchored on honesty, transparency and accountability, adding that Nimbo had been a peace loving community for ages.

He then, urged the traditional ruler to carry everybody along his cultural and traditional activities to enable the state government pay attention to the needs of the community.

The former commissioner appealed to the royal father and entire community to be supportive of government policies mostly as the mantle of governance has changed for the good of the state, explaining that the history of the community flowed from its ancestral kingship tradition.

Speaking shortly after his coronation, the royal father Igwe John Ikemefuna Akor appealed to the community, mostly those that contested the traditional stool alongside him to join hands for the development of the ancient kingdom. He added that the community used to be first in the scheme of things in Uzo- Uwani Local Government Area and must return to its pre-eminent position.

The royal father also sued for peace among the 10 villages that make up Nimbo Community to enable it stand on a better pedestal both in culture, tradition and governance, adding that he would do his very best to put things in place for the unity and progress of the community.

The coronation was attended by many government officials, clergy men, local government council chairmen, politicians, among other people from different walks of life, while different cultural dancers entertained the teeming audience.
