There are indications that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress may sanction former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, over the outcome of the National Assembly elections of Monday.

Sources within the APC said Atiku colluded with Senator Bukola Saraki to undermine the will of the party while Tambuwal, who is the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, supported Yakubu Dogara who emerged as Tambuwal’s successor.

The suspicion of the APC leadership was reignited by the fact that Atiku was the first person Saraki visited after emerging as Senate President on Monday, apparently to thank Atiku.

A reliable source within the party said the party was aware of moves by the Peoples Democratic Party to secure principal offices in the National Assembly over a month ago and that was why the party selected staunch APC members – Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila – as its candidates for Senate President and Speaker respectively.

The source said the APC knew that the PDP would approach its old members to actualise this plan. Both Saraki and Dogara defected to the APC from the PDP.

The source said, “We started keeping tabs on Atiku in January when he showed that he was not interested in the success of President Muhammadu Buhari when Buhari was our presidential candidate. Our fears were reignited when the then President, Goodluck Jonathan, paid Atiku a visit shortly before the elections.

“A large section of Atiku’s supporters defected to the PDP a day after that meeting with Jonathan and that was why Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Rufai Alkali, said shortly after that meeting that Atiku would soon return to the PDP. Atiku even admitted himself that he did not attend Buhari’s rallies.

“Don’t you find it curious that the first person that Saraki visited after emerging as Senate President was Atiku? We have information that Atiku told his supporters in the Senate to vote for Saraki and that was what happened. We know that Atiku is still nursing a presidential ambition for 2019 and he is now beginning to build blocks.”

The source said the APC had evidence that Tambuwal supported Dogara so that he (Tambuwal) could retain his influence over the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

He said Tambuwal ensured that Dogara emerged the Chairman, House Services Committee, which is the most influential committee in the House because of his closeness to Dogara.

He said, “Tambuwal is also nursing a presidential ambition and needs to retain control over the House. He will not be able to retain such influence if Gbajabiamila is the Speaker.”

When contacted, the media aide to Tambuwal, Mallam Imam Imam, said he had no comment over the issue.

Also, a text message to an aide of Atiku was neither acknowledged nor replied.

APC spokesperson, Lai Mohammed, said the emergence of Saraki and Dogara was unacceptable to the party and that the party would mete out appropriate sanctions against erring members.

Atiku is not for national unity and should be expelled (alongside Saraki)with alacrity & the chips be allowed to fall wherever they may, there is no point keeping him,he will destroy the party!!!

The best time is now so that he can revive his PDM and APC can take stock of what is left & ensure cohesion.. Atiku's ambition is never ever going to work for National interest or Party Unity.

Since he has criss crossed parties, (gotten the political prostitute/desperado tag),can't&never likely to have his way in PDP, dollarisation of APC's primary was an effort in futility even social media fraternisation was a total bust....

The only option left is to stay & destroy APC from within & find an avenue to have his way and "serve" the country by force. ... (God will never let it happen.. lipsrsealed)

Any and every discerning mind should know that Atiku is not happy with his situation, and just feigning the "loyal" party man stance.

He needs to be LET GO!!!.

I hope APC's case will not be like mike tyson, that failed to manage fame and fortune and ended up losing everything...

If APC don't put a pin to all the noise on the pages of newspaper and go ahead with the said sanction, they will get the tambuwal treatment in the national assembly which they themselves (APC) hailed...

Karma is indeed a biatch...cheesy

But Gbajabiamila was the arrow head of the emergence of Tambuwal in 2011.

So, Tambuwal could not reciprocate this kind gesture by Tinubu and Gbajabiamila when they needed him.

Hmmmmmmmm!

And they have been blaming the Igbos for their woes in the just concluded National Assembly Elections.

North and their Divide-and-Rule Politics. They destabilize the southern region knowing fully well that the igbos and yorubas are educated and sophisticated to always fight for superiority. When they achieve their aim of dividing the southern region, they use their high numerical number to clinch any position they want.

I wonder ooo, gbajabiamila was one of those that spared headed the revolt against akande who is also from the same region as he is...

His own ambition made him to sell out his "sister" in 2011, now he is getting paid in his own coin...

I wonder why some politicians lack foresight...SMH

Oh, how I love politics. It's high time Buhari start getting interested in what happens in other arms of government or forget about 2019.

I can now understand the demonisation of Tinubu.

This is one of the reason we might not move forward in this country with these set of politicians, the new regime is less than a month and we are already seeing some of the "CHANGE" mongers talking about 2019...

When they are not even sure if they will wake up tomorrow (not wishing them death), I wonder how we got ourselves all this selfish politicians...SMH

In as much as I refrain from commenting on political matters, I couldn't help but comment on this topic.

Atiku said he was busy that's why he couldn't attend all Buhari's rallies, did Tinubu attend all his (Buhari's) rallies? If they want to sanction Atiku for granting a sitting president audience, then they (APC) are a bunch of 'hypocritical strange bed fellows' cos Tinubu granted then president Jonathan audience and was even flown to Abuja with the presidential jet to meet him. I can remember when they brokered the deal for the nPDP to merge with the APC, the smiles on Bisi Akande's and Tinubu's faces were wide and they were genuinely happy, now I hope they understand what the Igbo proverb that said "He who carry ant infested firewood inside his house should be ready for the visitation of the lizard" (Hope I got that right?)

Politicians generally are selfish, power hungry and greedy. Nigeria will soon get to the stage where it must move on despite them.

Nigerians and politics of treachery and lies. Atiku saraki and tambawal should be expelled from the apc because they are traitor's and do not represent the kind of change we desire. As for other renegade senator's and house member's they should be suspended for the time being.
NB. Heaven will not fall if Atiku saraki etal move back to pdp. Yes they will control the senate but you need to have 2/3 of the member's in the senate to cause problems for Mr president. I still have faith in............

APC as a party has to work on its internal cohersive mechanism if it must survive the battles ahead. It is just too early to start hearing dischordant voices form a party not even one month in power.

The SS/SE lawmakers were USED to promote Atiku & Tambuwals agenda.

We warned the TANoids and their protection seeker that this level of politics was beyond them...

They wouldn't listen....they never saw this coming.

https://www.nairaland.com/2369693/senate-presidency-nigerians-victory-pdp#34618726

This was the response to Barcanista's rants:

fulanimafia:
What you fail to understand is that the Northern lawmakers ignored party lines to grab 2 of the 4 top offices in the Land. The real victory is for the CPC faction of the APC who wrestled back the party from Jagaban, and can now pursue their northern agenda, and PMB who has stood by his word and eliminated any blackmail Tinubu would have been able to hatch using the house/senate.

Some people have forgotten Saraki was nominated by Senator 'Sharia' Yerima (Zamfara). See the result -

President - NORTH
Senate President - NORTH
Speaker - NORTH
CJN - NORTH

with the help of SS/SE Lawmakers who would hold onto anything as a result of their circumstances.

The fact that you don't see Atiku's hands in all of this proves you're a political neophyte, and those who swallow that tripe up there without critical analysis are just as lost.

Perfect example of the one-eyed king in a village of blind men cheesy.

QuotaSystem:

First of all you cannot analyse what you do not understand, understand that.

1). Your claim is a blatant lie. The person who nominated Dogara, a northern christian, was Hon. Abdulmumuni, a northern muslim from Kano State, and was supported by northern reps across party lines. it is on record that all members from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara voted for Dogara regardless of party. The southern reps members were USED.

2). Atiku and the nPDP governors, in a bid to whittle Tinubu's influence, financed and backed Saraki against Lawan. The grand plan is to take control of the Senate and House, and then defect to sieze control of the PDP since it had already stated it had zoned the 2019 Presidency to the North.

3). The fact that you didn't sense Atiku in all your permutations shows your infancy in real politics.

Achievements

1. The CPC wing of the APC has succeeded in gaining substantial control of the Party by reducing Tinubu's influence.

2. Atiku and the nPDP (Kwankwaso et al.) have control of the Senate and HoR, paving way for the re-emergence of the PDP and their eventual return and SIEZE control of their original party from the SS/SE.
