Dr Bukola Saraki ; The Don De La Vinci, The Political Gladiator by olasunky15(m): 11:51pm On Jun 12, 2015
At the eve of announcing the winners of the senatorial polls of the just concluded General Election by the Independent National Electoral Commission(Inec), I told a gathering of people that a National Assembly chaired by Senator Bukola Saraki looms and its only a matter of time before the ex-Governor holds the gavel. Even though for someone like me, his re-election is a work-over. Ask his opponent- Alh. Abdulrahman Abdulrasak, he will only tell you that he just want to be relevant in Kwara Politics and not to left the seat unopposed. After my pronouncement, I was told immediately not to push my luck too far as the then senate president, David Bonaventure Mark is cruising home to victory.
Undoubtedly, Nigerians are dissatisfied with the PDP-led administration as to good governance and the rule of law being plummeted to an unprecedented record high coupled with the Buhari "change" factor, APC becoming the majority in the NASS is inevitable and the rest is history.

For starters, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki came into active politics in 2003 as the erstwhile governor of Kwara State, an office he hold till 2011. Before his emergence, he was the special adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Budget matters. The repository knowledge and economic acumen of Saraki endeared him to the former President hence making him hitherto protege of the latter. With the support of OBJ, he will later became the Chairman of Nigeria Governors' Forum, within a very short time, Saraki soared high in National politics, his charismatic style of Leadership is second to none. Some people don't learn it, but born with it. Little wonder he is being called "The Leader". Even in the hierarchy of his former party(PDP), he is a force to reckon with. Among his leadership attributes apart from charisma is being independent and decisive in good value-judgement and decision-making. Once convinced about what is right has being different to wrong, he toed the right, am not saying he is a Saint. He is the kind that dared whatever consequences to achieve his ambition, Nobody, nothing can stood on his way. He knows how to play his card better, and he always win. Charming!.

The thesis above can be explained better when he stood against his father and his sister- Senator Gbemisola Rukayah Saraki in the latter's governorship aspiration. To him, supporting her sister is not the right path in the right direction and thwarted her chances at the governorship poll in 2011. As a first-time senator he personally go to the presidency for an explanation about the fraudulent practice in the subsidy regime, but not given an answer. He will later spearhead to expose the rot in the downstream sector for all to see, not minding whose ox is gored. Audacious! You wont be wrong if you say Saraki belongs to everybody and Nobody. As if that was not enough, he will later lead Seven governors and other party bigwigs to stage a walk-a-away from a PDP convention for whatever reasons. An incidence that cost the party greatly and was partly attributed to its loss in the polls. We are all aware of what happens afterward.

Fast forward to June 9 2015, at the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly, Senator Saraki will later emerge as the Senate President eclipsing his father, former Senate leader, Late Dr Olusola Saraki of blessed memory, a politician per excellence,. popularly known as "Oloyee". This was against the wish of few party chieftains who prefers Senator Ahmed Lawan and weary of the fact that Bukola Saraki will not do their biddings and will be a hard nut to crack. For the records, majority of the APC Senators rooted for Dr Saraki as their candidate for the office of the Senate President following the initial, transparent primary conducted where he garner the majority vote, only for APC chieftains to arrange a kangaroo, undemocratic open ballot system of election. Where in a civilized clime is open ballot adopted? For God sake, this is 21st Century. Whatever happens to Democracy! Senator Saraki and his camp will later do the needful by boycotting the ill-conceived, archaic election and set the stage for the D-day. Interesting!!! Why should the party leaders decide for us, we do not elect them.

What goes around sure comes around, the now opposition party (PDP) will be clueless not to take advantage of the bickering and division in the camp of the APC. Whether they pay back the APC in their coin from what happen in similar situation in 2011 or are convinced like many that a Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki is the right thing to happen to the Red Chamber as another topic for another day.

Emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari and Dr Bukola Saraki as President and Senate President respectively is a victory to democracy and a victory to Nigerians at large.
It is not the big fish that prey the small fish, but the fast fish that prey the slow fish.
