Re: Dowry For Igbo Wife by Sauron1: 1:31pm On Feb 23, 2009 |
St.Funmi: Funmi, you and the OP are stark illiterates. Dowry is the money or property brought by a bride to her husband at marriage. In other words, women pay dowries, a man pays the brideprice. They are 2 different things. |

From what I hear about the Igbos, you suppose gather o. . . . . |
Re: Dowry For Igbo Wife by osisi2(f): 6:06pm On Feb 23, 2009 |
In most of Igboland from what I hear the dowry aka brideprice is not the issue It's the list of things to buy that gets you. In Abiriba for instance, the dowry is 6 naira 50 kobo or so and it has remained so But the list on that small 20 leaves exercise book eh |

~Sauron~:There is no such thing as a state regulated price. Price differs from state to state, and then even L.G.A. to L.G.A, and then even village to village, and even moreso from family to family. You're just going to have to discuss it with the family of the girl you wish to marry. |

**osisi: Wetin? Dem line una kitten with diamond? I was in Abiriba last December for a friend's wedding. Flamboyance is an understatement!!! And it seems the groom had to buy duplicate items for each and every head of a family unit within the bigger family unit within the community. I tire! I could never get married like that. There's a term we use at work called "Kareema style". A colleague- Kareema came to work on a certain Tuesday but she had to leave early because she had stuff to do. On Wednesday, she came with a wedding band. She got married on Tuesday evening. Now. . . . thats more like me. No gra gra, no party, no overload. ~Sauron~: Lol. Sauron + Marriage = You don't say. |
Re: Dowry For Igbo Wife by Sauron1: 1:25pm On Feb 24, 2009 |

Hey what is going on here?I think we will grow and move faster in development if we consider everybody and anybody as just humans without thinking of where they come from,as long as they are upright in character. Haven't we learnt some lessons from America? An African descendant being the President is enough to treat every Nigerian as one.Because we are all same and the same. Anyway,i believe little talks like goes a long way in reducing the growing global recession heat. Anybody with SWEET IDEAS of how to make easy money? Recession is not for me and my family. It wont be yours too.GOD FORBID.But there are some certain things regarding money that we all need to inculcate. Try to make sure that you earn more than you spend daily.I have some ideas of how you too can be the envy of your neighbors. |
Re: Dowry For Igbo Wife by tpia: 9:46pm On Feb 25, 2009 |
~Sauron~: Is that so. Here's what some of your "admirees" have to say about you: I did some of my schooling in the west and my greatest problem with yoruba guys was "hygiene"! They dress for show but migosh! When ever I was invited to visit most of them in their homes or on campus----you cannot drink water there not to talk of eat! They do not know how to talk softly and yell most of the time. Lousy,I believe is an understatement when it comes to Yoruba men. next time, check Nairaland archives before typing. Why Are Yoruba Men So Lousy? Majority Of The Yoruba Men Are Lousy |
