As the All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to have belly-ache over the emergence of Senator Ike Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President in last week’s National Assembly elections, facts further emerged that there was actually a meeting scheduled for reconciliation to be presided by President Muhammad Buhari on Tuesday, the very day of elections.

A chieftain of All Progressives Congress and a former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct CPC, Mr Tunde Fashakin in a telephone conversation with DAILY POST National Assembly Correspondent today confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari was actually billed to host the meeting of all Senators and House of Representative members elect as at then to reconcile leadership logjam of groups involved, but to the party’s dismay, few of them numbering about 53 senators only attended.

He clarified that it was not appropriate for Mr President to attend to only those ones, thus making it look as if he would be pitching tent with them while he should be the leader of all.

He said that based on this wisdom, Buhari decided to tarry for further development only for the election to hold outside some Senators.

Yesterday, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, DAILY POST observed that the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in company of large number of APC chieftains including Ahmed Joda, Chairman, Presidential Transition Committee looked worried and making desperate calls for long hours in front of the car park.

Few minutes after they had left, impeccable source disclosed that the APC National Working Committee has reviewed what transpired that brought Dr Bukola Saraki into being the Senate President and resolved that the party will recognize his leadership, but put Senator Ike Ekweremadu on probation in view of the mood of the nation.

The sources close to the party hierarchy revealed that it would not consider punitive measure for the likes of Senator Melaye and his co-travelers for now in the interest of stability of the party.

APC makes u-turn, accepts Saraki as Senate President
It would be recalled that Senator Melaye denied having knowledge of any scheduled meeting of APC Senators with Buhari in a press conference this week at the National Assembly and said the agitation of Barnabas Gemade led group in favour of Ahmed Lawan was peddling the name of Mr. President for subterranean motives.
