AYF: Obasanjo Should Dine With Saraki Using Long Spoon by Rizmo(m): 12:01pm On Jun 20, 2015 |
The Arewa Youth Forum ( AYF) has cautioned former President Olusegun Obasanjo to use a long spoon in dinning with the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, so as not to be consumed by his uncommon treachery. Reacting to Senator Saraki’s visit to Chief Obasanjo in his hilltop mansion in Abeokuta on Friday, the President of AYF, Gambo Gujungu said the former president should be beware of the Senate President, adding that Saraki had something up his sleeve. Gujungu noted that “Chief Obasanjo is a respected elder statesman who has always stood for truth and justice and should not allow Senator Saraki to dent his hard-earned reputation. ” The AYF President described Saraki’s election as the President of the Senate as the highest form of treachery and betrayal to the ideals of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) . “Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is a respected elder statesman who has contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria. A good instance of this was when he stood up to former President Goodluck Jonathan when he felt he was pursuing tribal, regional and personal interests to the detriment of our national development and unity. “Chief Obasanjo spoke out when a lot of our so- called leaders would rather remain silent in the face of wanton bad governance and impunity. This is why we are calling on him to be steadfast and courageous, as he has always been, to tell Senator Saraki and his cohorts where they have gone wrong. The election of Senator Saraki as President of the Senate indisputably undermined the supremacy of the APC; and this should not be swept under the carpet or condoned by the party leadership. “The emergence of a Senate President from the North-East would have been a great compensation for a region that gave President Muhammadu Buhari an overwhelming support in spite of the devastation it has suffered as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency, ” Gujungu said. He further called on members of the APC and stakeholders to join the call for a fresh election for the Senate presidency of the 8th National Assembly, even as he said, a comparison of Senators Bukola Saraki and Ahmed Lawan would clearly tell who is a better candidate.
