I am a fall 2011 applicant. I visit the thread often, but i've discovered that more often than not, my questions are left unanswered. Its discouraging. Anyway, let me share some tidbits i discovered. 1. Whether u apply in Lagos or Abuja, it really makes no difference. If you get denial on your first try, US law demands that the second time, a different officer will interview you so there is no point running from where you did your first interview. In anycase, they have all the info on their systems so do you really think they would not know you were denied the first time? 2. Dont do anything fake, bring fake bank statement, fake certificates, doctored transcripts etc. You are only harming yourself cos they will find out. Just take them as perfect and as all knowing. They have a magic computer that will tell you more things about yourself than you yourself know. For instance, 87% of Nigerians submit fake bank statements. Nothing stops them from going to your bank to confirm. 3. Always tell the truth. No point lying. They are trained to detect lies. If you lie, you have just ruined yourself. 4. Be ready to explain anomalies. If your name on the passport does not match the one in your certificate, it dont mean automatic denial. As long as you can reasonably explain, then you are fine. 5. Ignore all the f.a.k.e.s that troll here advertising their services. Use them at your own risk. There is more jor, but im tired of typing. Cheers everyone. |

To all those whose comments and responses encouraged me while I was awaiting my admission decision, I want to say a big thank you because I finally gained admission to study MS Economic Research at University of North Texas, Denton, Texas with funding as an Academic Assistant helping undergraduates in Micro and Macro economic theory and paying $22 per hour which I think is good enough. I just sent my bank statement today and I hope that sooner than later, I should get my I - 20 form. However, I want to ask, do they accept certificate of investment as evidence of sufficient funding or I suggest my sponsor liquidate up to the amount needed for paying my school fees and leave that amount in her current account until then. I hope and pray that as many of us who are looking up to resume fall 2011, our dreams shall be granted. To those who will be going for their interview this week, may God go before you and favour you. |

nnamdistan, What are your questions again? The family ties could be proven purely with your relationships, especially if you are the only child, or the first child planning to travel out of the country. Your financial troubles are 80-90% over with your full scholarship, depending on the terms. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by Abats4naija: 12:32am On May 25, 2011 |
@myforumid3 hello, are u in university of tulsa, what course n where u able to get d funds from d dept. i got into tulsa but im still waiting on a decision from texas a&m. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by nnamdistan: 1:27am On May 25, 2011 |
Thanks for your reply, anfanio. Truly appreciated. My financial aid is good, but still I have to raise 1000 dollars as that is my expected student contribution and well, its really hard right now. Trying to hustle the cash like no tomorrow, meeting blockades every which way. Poverty is not a good thing. Trust me. I cant begin to imagine I could lose this great offer if something good doesnt happen and happen soon. In any case, even if i was to raise the money, the people there will probably think I borrowed it just to make my bank statement look healthy. I heard from the consul that there are guyses who loan you money like that. So it seems im screwed either way man. I am waiting for Superman or a miracle. Anyway, here are the rest of the tips. 6. There is nothing wrong with applying to a community college. Im sure that has already been said on this thread previously. As long as you are qualified for a visa, its a good plan as far as the consuls are concerned. Some of them in fact passed through community colleges. 7. If you are fortunate enough to have relatives abroad, its never a bad idea, it doesn't necessarily jeopardize ur propects mentioning that you plan to stay with them or close to them or choose a reason because your Aunt Margaret makes the best moi-moi in the world and you know you will remain alive if you get there. - From the horses mouth. Please dont go quoting a-verbatim o . 8. Even if you fail to tell them about your relatives, chances are they already know them, and know whether they are ins status or not, know whether they originally obtained F1 and then dissappeared into thin air. 9. You dont need to return to Naija to renew visa. Once you get visa and you arrive and maintain ur information and dont leave America, you are in status. You only need to renew visa if you leave America after your visa expires. 10. Visa is not a right. You can even say its a privilege. It is entirely at the discretion of the issuing officer. Some people erroneously think, Ah, i got admitted, Oya issue my visa. False. The consuls have a duty to protect the integrity of their country. They wanna keep out those people who intend to come over as students, then change to workers. They wanna keep out harmful people. It doesnt mean anything if they deny us all visa's. They are not gonna lose their job for it. No one evaluates them to ask, Haba, why are you always denying these guys? NO. LOL. The official who spoke said he had denied 12 dreams that morning. However, one visa issued to the wrong person could cause the issuing officer a lot of HAVOC, so if in doubt, theyd rather deny you cause if you become wahala, they will trace the issuance back to him. 11. Therefore go to the interview prepared to quell any doubts. BE PREPARED. Nothing trumps preparation. And even then, with all your prep, you could still not be granted the VISA cos maybe the issuer had a bad day. Maybe he quarrelled with his wife . Maybe her husband has been unfaithful . Maybe she had an altercation with the BOSS. Maybe some crude Nigerian driver insulted (WAKKA . Oyibo, you no go go back to your country!)her on her way to work and made her driving difficult. Maybe last Saturday, a Nigerian trader cheated her at the Market. Lol. The list of maybe's is probably endless so ill stop now. My point im sure is already taken. 13. Its you interview. If the person interviewing you is talking so fast, not giving you time to respond, you can tell him. Please sir, I need you to give me some time to properly phrase my responses. LOL. I wouldnt try that though. Just parroting what the consul said. Check out : http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_2796.html 14. If you are denied, cry, mope, do whatever you can to relieve yourself. Then analyse what went wrong, that is if you truly have genuine intentions. Then prepare and return with new data, updated info and maybe this time youll get it. 15. Anecdotes: The guy kept mentioning going to touts to get this or that. Maybe its WAEC certificate. Maybe its ur fake transcript. He made it clear that they will know O! For instance, somebody who wrote WAEC this year presenting his WAEC certificate when they know that WAEC waits at least two years before sending that stuff to schools. Or someone who had 3.8 gpa but cant speak good English or defend himself or ideas. It also seems a lot of Nigerians think that mentioning that their school was formed in 1302 is the best way to explain why they choose that school. Funny if you ask me. Like really? If year of establishment is all that matters to you then, you are of all men most to be pitied and have no business seeking a US visa. Guys, please apart from the SEME stuff, which I certainly cant do, what other options are there for SEVIS fee? Has anyone else tried the GTB bank draft stuff that was mentioned earlier? |
