gbenge is correct. They will ask you to cancel the date you have picked before you can see new dates they have provided for you. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by seedord247(m): 7:17pm On Nov 11, 2011 |
You can ask for ED without Booking Appointment. Chikena. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by cleverdude: 8:35am On Nov 12, 2011 |
imperiouxx: Gbenge 77:I dont think so,cos i'm a very good instance:earlier this yr,i got an ED without even scheduling a date. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by imperiouxx(m): 9:10am On Nov 12, 2011 |
^^^^^ Ok. ED may not even be necessary as I was told many dates in Dec were released last night. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by Gbenge77(m): 9:15am On Nov 12, 2011 |
cleverdude:Thats the info on their website.Since you got an Ed without scheduling a date,we can infer that they dont adhere to it strictly. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by imperiouxx(m): 9:26am On Nov 12, 2011 |
Gbenge 77: Yea, info on that site isn't accurate sometimes. Do you know that ED according to the site is granted to those that haven't been for interview before? But reverse is the case, people ask for ED even after initial denials. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by wealthpos(f): 9:44am On Nov 12, 2011 |
@cleverdude,, Please how did you apply for the ED without booking an appointment?, Please explain. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by Square65: 9:49am On Nov 12, 2011 |
My appointment was for 10am but was interviewed around 12:45pm. Me: Good afternoon. VO: Good morning. Let me have your docs. Me: Passed them VO: Why are you traveling to the US? Me: For my graduate studies VO: What programme? Me: MSc Chemical Engineering VO: Did you take the GRE? Me: Yes VO: Let me have your score report Me: Gave him VO: Which other schools did you apply to? Me: ULL, WVU VO: Why this particular school? Me: They run the Chemical Engineering programme in combined department of Chemical & Natural Gas Engineering, so it will give me the opportun , VO: Completes my sentence , to specialize in Natural Gas Engineering later on. That's very good. Where did you complete your undergraduate studies? Me: Said VO: What did you study? Me: Chemical Engineering VO: So what do you do presently? Me: Procurement Engineering/Project Management VO: How long have you been on the job? Me: About 1 yr now VO: So you finished school and got this your present job immediately? Me: Yes, but not until after my service year in 2009/10. VO: So are you coming back to your present job or you will get another? Me: I will come back to my present job VO: Why? Me: My employer's a part-sponsor VO: You have a letter of support from your employer? Me: Yes. VO: Let me see it Me: Gave him VO: Verifies on my I-20. Ok, I see , Awwww, there's a mistake here, your letter of support states w per mth, while your I-20 states x (= 24w) for d first year. Instead, it should show 12w. Now, if u remove 12w from the total u have now, you will be short by y(about $1.3k). Also, I can see you have a scholarship/tuition waiver of z from the school, do you have an award letter for this scholarship? Me: Yes. Gave him the letter VO: Reads the letter. The letter does not state the overall amount/effect of the scholarship and tuition waiver as detailed on your I-20, the school has really messed this one up for you , Me: Already going defensive now. The I-20 explains this under the "Remarks" section. VO: The I-20 is one document and the letter's another. What is required here's that both of them say exactly the same thing. I would have overlooked this if it was just one issue but there are two and, If I give you the visa now, you will be questioned at POE and that will be problems for both of us. You should get a revised I-20 with the required corrections from the school. Me: At this point, my mind flashed back to the very first day I started preparing for GRE till this moment, was about watching all my efforts go down the drain with the words "I am sorry , " VO: So I am giving you this form, so you will be able to come in without making another appointment. Me: Came back from trance, with a ray of hope on my face. Thank you very much! I screamed that out as if I was already given the visa. The forms states I could come back after 1pm any Monday/Wednesday within 1yr from now. Lessons Learned Although the VO put all the blame solely on the school, I share a very big part. I should have done the calculation well, probably put more money than necessary in my account and perhaps there wouldn't have been a need to get an updated I-20 if, even after removing the 12w, funds were sufficient. I used to think I was more meticulous than this but I think anxiety played its role fine. While I thank God for a second chance, I trust him to finish what he's started. To all who await their interview, please learn a lesson from this and tie all seemingly loose ends. Good tidings shall never cease in this house! |

Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by imperiouxx(m): 10:43am On Nov 12, 2011 |
@wealth, As I was told this morning, it was in Abuja. However, I said last night and that means you should be hopeful. @square, I'm glad to hear this but I told you while on YIM. Infact, I emphasized it that: partial scholarship + 2 years paid leave + sponsor must almost equal to or more than your 2 years tuition. I'm saying this again for webstradamus, if you have a stable job and there is a backup showing funds will be coming into your account while schooling and you got scholarship/assistantship, then self sponsor isn't barrier. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by wealthpos(f): 12:10pm On Nov 12, 2011 |
Thank you for the reply @imperriouxx, But when do you think I can check it again because I don,t wanna loose the chance or maybe I should book the available date in February and later request for an ED. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by cleverdude: 1:28pm On Nov 12, 2011 |
@wealthpos-just send em an e-mail(in an appropriate format o),if nt, it'll take 4ever b4 u get any reply. If ur request is being granted,u'll b given a date,1 wk tym frm d day of request,ED tym is always during noon(12 or 1),d earliest tym which mite b given,is 10am,but it's always on a very low probability. |

@square congrat in advance, u are almost there. Just be fast about whatever corrections u ve to make. My advice for d house, if u are going for an undergraduate program without having a diploma, make sure u sit for jamb abi utme. A guy was denied on dat day by d man in canter 2 for nt sitting for jamb. And also English proficiency test will give u an edge too. I 4got to add it to my interview post, d vo ask if i did sat, i said no, i did toefl, i got 96. I showed him the test score. I kn all those contributed to d success of my interview. Wishing everyone success |

I had my visa interview 7am today at the Lagos consulate. I arrived at the embassy 6:15am and finally went it at about 7:45am. I was interviewed by the black guy at window 1. Here is how my interview went: Me: Hi, goodmorning Vo: ( I am not sure if he answered or not) Vo: Why are you going to study, ( he mentioned my major)? Me: i said something, i cant really remember now, but i related it to my career when i get back to work in Nigeria after my studies Vo: Who is sponsoring ur education Me: My uncle Vo: why does he want to sponsor u? Me: because i am family Vo: did you write any test? Me: Yes i wrote the SAT ( showed him my score report) Vo: Why didnt you write TOEFL? Me: because i scored high in my critical reading and writing, my school exempted me from writing that Vo: show me ur sponsors bank statement Me: showed him. Vo: Tears me the green card and asked me to pick up my visa on friday. Note: Pls excuse all typographically/grammatical errors. Its not really typing when u have just gotten a joyous news as good as this. |

@house, What's the implication of admission with the student going to attend ESL for a year before the MS studies? It happens to a friend and I have said mine only want to know if anyone has gone through this before. What will the VO likely say? Though, on the I-20 it was stated that ''English proficient is not required because on campus ESL is needed if below 79TOEFL or 6.0 IETLS'' |
