EPIDEMEOLOGY:
Out of every 100 dead recorded in the clinic, at least 16 is linked to appendicitis as the PCOD. The illness mostly affect people of age 10-30. In like manner, it can still affect people outside this age range. It may be a surprise to many that even a week old baby have once been diagnosed of this same illness in LASUTH; Up till today, the cause of such in the baby remains idiopathic.

ANATOMY:
Let me start by saying that every human being is blessed with a special anatomical structure called -Appendix. It's actually an extension of your large intestine measuring about 3cm in length. You can easily locate it at your right lower abdominal
quadrant.. It's one structure with no defined function in your body, other than housing intestinal exudates and debris.

CLINICAL ANATOMY:
In some fellows, this structure can actually undergo some anatomical changes by inflaming and subsequently bursting or perforating once in a while. At this point of perforation or bursting, death can set in within 2weeks if It's not tackled amicably.

CAUSES:
Causes include long time stored /left over - hardened feaces, excess bad fat deposits, dehydration, sedentary lifestyles, trapped seeds and poorly grounded foods and biscuit bones. etc

SIGN AND SYMPTOMS:
1.Dull pain that starts from your navel and travel down to your right lower abdomen within a week plus. The pain Can become worst as you walk. Sometimes, you can feel uncomfortable sitting either. As you Dorso- extend your right abdominal side, the pain seems to increase.
2. Low grade fever
3.Vomiting.
4. Tenderness and pains on your mcburney's point when touched.
Minor ones are resulting symptoms of loss of appetite, weight loss etc. When once you notice these symptoms, don't wait to be told. Report at the nearest clinic immediately for evaluation and subsequent treatments before it brings mourning.

PREVENTION STRATEGY:
Try to avoid the causes already mentioned above.
1. Take adequate water always. Dehydration is not good to any man created by God.
2. Avoid sipping garri with excess milk as a young adult. Your pepsin level is still high enough to form coagulations that can invade and destroy your appendix. But it shall not be your portion.
3. Don't swallow hard seeds from fruits.
4.If you chew palm kernel, biscuit bones etc, break them well before swallowing.
4. Exercise adequately.
5. Majority of the adults fall victim to over stored hardened feaces.
6. The illness can only cause death when it burst or perforate. Therefore, never you take longer time than necessary to meet your doctor anytime you notice symptoms. Remember, most often, it can be very difficult for ultrasound to notice that something is wrong in you, not until It's too late...So I discourage self treatment before you mistaken it for tapeworm. Therefore, only your health personnel will sort this out.
