Misplaced Priorities and The Certificate Syndrome are the common characteristics of the average Nigerian Student.
It's sad that Internet access has been in Nigeria for atleast over a decade now and people don't use it unless it's to post pics on instagram and other social networks.

Did he even check to see if there other kinds of careers with a medical certificate?
Yes, he was following his passion but he definitely could have moved into medical Journalism (something we actually need in Nigeria).

And almost everyone is saying it was a good decision?
I know I won't push my child to do what he/she doesn't like but if after wasting a certain amount of time, life and money on a particular career and suddenly changes it and still expect me to cover the funds for that.
My son/daughter you had better wake up and smell the morning dew because my one kobo is going into anything.

Very bold decision, he was begged by everybody including lecturers and his enemies to come write the final exam but he refused.

Years have gone by now but I still believe he made a wrong decision, he should have written the final exam, obtained his certificate as a doctor and then proceeded to study whatever he wished to study.

That way not only would he actualise his dream, that would probably make him the first doctor-journalist.
U are right. But I suspect dat he's afraid of failing d final exams again.

Yes, I know him very well, he was my senior....

I was there when everything happened....

Even the HODs of medicine and surgery were begging him to go and write the final exams, even if it was just his name he would write on the answer scripts....

He even went against his mother's wish....

But I'm still proud of Alfa esin as we all know him to be....
and everyone think its ordinary...

Can you handle ECONOMICS and STATISTICS (ECO-STAT)?

it depends on the lecturer taking you and also on what you believe. There is no big deal in the courses you mention Bro.

No mind her, lecturers like Prof Ige and Baba Fakunle (Angel of Chemistry) can make you go mad. They were visiting lecturers in Lautech as at 2009 I graduated. I was already deep into chemistry before I realised that networking is my passion

My brother from another mother, lm happy you know this guy...but l want to tell you that this guy did not pass 2nd MB... mark my word you can dig this out... he probably joined gis colleagues to clinicals to deceive his peeps but had no other option but to quit.

Thi is because l find it difficult to believe he left two weeks to his 5th MB BS exam... check it naahhh! Even if it was his last chance he should have attempted the exam..the department may have taken decision to pass him...who knows... and he left just like that? U and l know there is more to this story

l wish him well anyway

Not in unilorin!! Your name is expunged from the class list as soon as you don't make the cut. Legendary alfa esin wa a mentor to many younger colleagues. The story is quite true, he was supposed to write that exam with me. I know him quite well. If he wasn't a legit student, the Hods won't be practically begging for him to come write the exams.

. See this mumu o, you think the medical curriculum is one small pamphlet you can just cram. Every subject is like a course for most undergraduates, and if you are the cramming type you will surely fail. There is a limit to what u can cram. Most medical students would surely be easy first class materials in other courses

Not engineering

It doesn't work like that
The course depend on the lecturers taking them

For example you can see uo to 15 first class graduates of chemical engineering in unilag in a yr, but not in other universities

This is a stack evidence that he is being remote controlled by some wicked uncles from the village. They obviously didn't want his family to share in the Glory of producing perhaps the First medical Doctor in his Village. Always watch and pray.

So he wasn't motivated/determined enough to have withdrawn at the last minute

Your assertion suggests the case was not an isolated case meaning it's common practice which could have been as a direct result of the kind of people that attend the university

Just trying to get my head around the ridiculous decision when it's pretty clear he will have far greater challenges getting a job on graduation with regards to his current age/employment requirements in Naij

Oh...it's definitely not common practice. But yeah I agree that the decision was a costly one but he probably already put the job challenges in mind and is just happy to be able to finally do what he wants.

Also, I feel like he should have stuck through the med school program and graduated before starting the Mass Comm program. There's nothing wrong with having two degrees and it's always good to have a backup.

He probably doesn't need a mass comm degree to work in the media communication industry. I honestly don't understand why some Nigerians complain of not getting jobs after wasting years in Uni getting worthless degrees.

Before you have the opportunity to prove yourself to be professional enough, a degree would really help matters.

Not necessarily. A certificate that doesn't have to be a degree will allow you break through

Mass comms or whatever ain't no specialist course so i'm failing to see how getting a degree would help him climb the career ladder
