The former Governor of Kano State and current serving Senator, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have asked a High Court sitting in Gezawa, to stop the Economic and Finance Crimes Commission, EFCC, from arresting him.

The Gezawa High Court registry will therefore sit for the hearing of the notice filed by Kwankwaso’s attorney for hearing tomorrow.

Kwankwaso has been accused of embezzling Government State funds without fear of being challenged by anyone. His government was therefore termed the “Kwaskwarima”, meaning a Government that is only after renovating or giving facelift to projects or programmes earlier executed by his predecessors, and claiming credit for jobs he did not originate.

Despite accused of not initiating any programme of its own, he left a debt of over N105 billion meant for the payment of 2,715 uncompleted projects in the State for the new Dr Abdullahi Ganduje-led Government.

On another ground, Kwankwaso was accused of misappropriation of the over N255 billion federal allocations to the 44 Local Government Areas in the State. It was alleged that between June 2011 and 2014, Kano Local Government Councils received N255, 642,147,212.80 but could not be accounted for.

Among several others, Bashir Nasir & Co filed a petition barely 24 hours after handing over, on behalf of pensioners in the state civil service who dragged Kwankwaso to court demanding the repatriation of N2 billion pension money allegedly deposited by the former Governor in the Kano branch of Euro Bank Plc.
