davehHull24: Everything you listed above is exactly why Nigeria is a third shiit hole. There's no law, order and organization in Nigeria. In Nigeria, anyone can just do whatever they want ,You can buy any land and build a house without regulations and without taxes. You can refuse to pay your employees, You can kill anyone and go scot-free because there are no investigations ,fingerprint nor ID database(ID database also keeps track of population without conducting a census). There are no observation towers (like CN tower or Seattle space needle)in coastal cities to checkmate sea piracy ,human trafficking and to shoot missiles at the sea pirates from the tower . Nigerian education is based on theory instead of practicals in order to utilize the acquired skills in society. most Nigerians are malnourished due to the fact most Nigerian foods are carbs and starch . Nigerian environment is mostly dirty and polluted and induces numerous cases of kidney failure . Nigeria's life expectancy is just 50( a person can just fall sick and die suddenly.) Only immigrants feel the way you do,those who are born and raised in a developed country are used to the system such as putting on your sit belt, obeying traffic, paying mortgage & insurance, and have lots of friends ,go to the beach ,movies, camping, skiing, skating,NBA game,Hockey game,Base ball game, etc. There are numerous homeless shelters ,clothing banks,Subsidized housing and food-banks for the poor to get free food. There are 4 interesting varieties of seasons instead of just 2 hazy and boring season. there's more freedom of self expression. A Norwegian or American immigrant would also fill out of place in a hell hole like Nigeria. Personally,I can not live in Nigeria for more than 1 month as the atmosphere is primitive ,backward and discouraging. In all due honesty, the only thing I like about Nigeria is afang soup and fufu (I think that soup is delicious and people from around the world would like it),the Adamawa,Plateau, and Taraba Hills and lakes are beautiful. that's it!

tai2: 2. Lack of Jobs
You’re running off to Europe? Lol. The people in Europe are running to the Middle East, Asia and the U.S to find better jobs. Not every country in Europe is an opportunity. Simply because someone came to you with visa runs or told you of his brother that is “making it” in one country that sounds like something foreign and exciting does not mean it is true.
Yes, you see them all the time. They will take pictures standing near the Eiffel Tower, Burj Khalifa, Sydney Opera House, the Statue of Liberty etc. Please do not be deceived. Taking pictures in beautiful locations does not necessarily translate to enjoyment. Some people have not eaten, others are wondering how to pay their next rent. They are mostly taking pictures to show their relatives in Nigeria, that all is well and their brother is enjoying. The reality is much much different.
Getting a job in obodo oyibo is not easy, except you are looking for the lowest of jobs in some places, which will turn out to be a rat race. You work and all your money disappears, while you have to keep working just to survive. You won’t even have time to search for another job or time to read for that certificate qualification you were told will bring you millions (NEBOSH,CCIE and co). In fact it is cheaper to do the professional certificate course in Nigeria at 60 k, than to come to obodo oyibo and do it for the equivalent of N 400,000.
The white man does not care whether you are a Master’s degree holder from the University of Bujumbura, or whether you were the Chief Manager of one bank in your village. As far as most of them are concerned, Africa is a jungle where houses are built of thatch and mud and all of you live on charity from the developed world, so where did you find a university to go to? How come you even speak English? The fact that Nigeria is a rich country is only known by Nigerians.
You will only avoid this problem if you find work with a multinational or a place that does business with people from countries around the world. In such places they have people who have worked in Africa and know that at least there are well-read people from places like Nigeria and Angola. However, you will have to show you have experience, which means dropping your degree and retraining. Yes. You need to get obodo oyibo degree and their experience to prove your worth. International certifications may help regardless of the country you got them e.g Nigeria but that is not the end of the story.
So for people with money, get a good Master’s degree (not Master’s in philosophy o) from a good institution in your country of choice. Find an entry level job first of all (remember you came from Africa and have no obodo oyibo working experience.) that gives you the chance to grow, not a job that has no growth prospects. Then over time you can prove your worth. The good thing is when you have obodo oyibo working experience and certificates it is easier to get work that will help you survive. If you have Phd in Nigeria, nobody cares. There are jobs you apply for that your Nigerian over-degree will be a curse sef instead of a blessing.
If you were a Bank Manager in Nigeria. Leave your Bank and your Manager in Lagos, nobody in Obodo Oyibo cares, as far as they are concerned, there are no banks in Africa, you people use cowries for money.
If somebody tells you they are “hustling” or “on the streets” in obodo oyibo. Run. The only street business that brings money is crime and sooner or later they get caught and pay for it. For every hustler that has “succeeded” and built properties in Nigeria, there are 100 others locked in prison, dead or buried. Do not be a victim or claim you have special luck. Probability does not know luck or the prayers of your mother in the village.
I agree with u 2 an extent however everytin boils down 2 destiny. 1 of my uncle went 2 d UK @ over 50, he is over 60 now & he is still doing well |

true2home: while everybody is entitle to their thesis about Nigeria Vs Abroad, the problem here is simple. Most Nigerian are not patriotic and are cowards. The situation in Nigeria is the result of the aforementioned. most of us will not do the things we do abroad as stepping stone. Eg, no body will do security to earn feeding money then attend school to obtain higher degree. Nobody will clean old peoples ass to earn Nursing degree. Nobody will work in a Mc D. All these are what things most ppl do when they arrive US initially. until we start doing things in order, life will continues to be hard for black people PERIOD. Oyinbos love their land and will not run when things are not going smooth. they will face it and over come their issue. How many recession has passed in US? every ten years, US experiences recession, you don't see them running for the airport like black ppl do that is because you will not be paid decent money or treated like a human being doing those things here in nigeria. |

I'm sure if there's a guaranteed opportunity form 4 Obodo Oyibo, Op would be the first to fill the form.
Every country has its own challenges, but gauging the challenges 2 one another and figuring out the positive differences is what makes an advanced country and an undeveloped country the way they are!
Let's be honest with ourselves, how many of u in his/her logical reasoning capacity can safely say you are proud of ur country and won't leave it for any other ? I agree brother.. I have left Nigeria before twice on a 6 months and later 2 years stint. What I hated about Europe the most wwas the cold and the pervasive loneliness in my soul... I packed my bags one day and returned home. I am still relatively young and trust me I have suffered hard when I got back before I adjusted again to Nigeria, but the thing is I made up my mind I will not run again but stay to make my country better. Pls don't misquote me, read the entirety of my comment. I never said someone who's "fresh" from Nigeria. Rather I said after earning an associate degree within 2-3yrs or bachelors within 4yrs or less, it all depends on your prior level of education and the course you studied in Nigeria. It is a 'catch-22' you can't sit comfortable at home watching The Kardashian Show and expect to make this kind of money, something has got to give. If you read my comment thoroughly, you will note that I said you must be hardworking and willing to work several overtime hours. Everyone will pave their own path in life, however, if you are a determined Nigerian coming to the U.S with a green card and graduated secondary school or university in Nigeria already, I can direct you towards a career path that will make you a minimum of $200,000 a year if you achieve the following (1) You complete your associate degree in 2yrs. (2) Upon landing a job, you are determined to work several overtime hours. It's like many things in life, if you put in just a little more work or effort you can improve your current situation. Moreover, many employers offer tuition reimbursements for employees trying to further their education in their field of work. While working with your associate, you may decide to go further to earn your bachelors/ masters or masters/doctorate all at the expense of your employer. You need not get stuck in student loan debt like many Nigerians I know. I know of folks who took huge sums of student loans to study accounting or media arts etc but can't find a decent paying job upon graduation. This may not be the case for all, but the point is, you should study a course that's in high demand, make money and then pursue your passion. If u r too passionate for your current field of study, pls stick to it. And u r wrong in saying a vast majority of Nigerians are not 6 figure earners, according to the U.S Census Bureau, Nigerians have the highest number of doctors among all immigrant groups including Indians. Don't underestimate your people.
Hmmm...very good contribution. But what from your observation, does same apply to Canada ? What programs do you think pay the 6 figures you're talking about apart from medical profession? |

How did you cope with the cultural change and stuffs like racism ? What are you doing at the moment ? Irrespective or how you arrive the first couple of months are the hardest and that's when you are most vunerable. For me i was in country legally but had to wait 3 months to get my social security. Without that you'll be working under the table, meaning you will be employed by an employer who pays you cash only. What he pays is far less than minimum wage but there's nothing you can do about it because it is illegal. This is the period you need to limit your association with Nigerians. You have to remember, a lot of us are in country illegally, and all they know is how to hustle. They will try to suck you in but you have to resist. As per the cultural change and racism, your best bet again is to stay away from Nigerians and Black Americans. Mix with people from Ghana, whites and the likes. You'll get acclamatized faster. It's hard either way and only time will get you through it. I have not witnessed any form of racism personally. You'll eventually find out that it's mostly lazy people who complain about racism. I'm not saying it does not exist, but it's few and far in between. Imagine a scenario where a man goes into a store, steals and runs away. He is chased by the police, told to stop, he resists and starts fighting with the cops. He gets shot and every black person screams RACISM. I ask you; does that make sense to you? My wife's clients are mostly white women. If America was that racist would she have those clients? America cares only about what quality service you can provide irrespective of what race you are. If you cannot be beneficial to society then you might as well pull out the race card. I always advice people to join the army for at least 3 years immediately they arrive in the states. Your life will be so much better if you do. You will hit the ground running and achieve so much more. Nigerians told me not to, that i will be deployed to iraq and afghanistan and most likely die there. True, that could happen. I could also be crossing the street and be hit by a car the next minute as well. I have been deployed 3 times and nothing happened. Here's what you get as a soldier. 1. Citizenship within six months, while others wait 5 years. 2. 100k, free for educational purposes. This can only be used for college only. 3. In addition to that, while serving you get tuition assistance which means they pay for your schooling in active duty or reserve. Which also means you don't have to use the 100k. I'm transfering the 100k to my wife to finish her masters. 4. They also teach you a trade craft when you join the army. I am a software engineer for the army. I did not know squat about it prior to joining. I did a test which would tell if i was trainable and once that was done i got trained and the rest is history. 5. Once you master one craft, you can apply to switch to another one. 6. Free medical insurance. peace of mind 7. Quality life insurance. If i die for whatever reason; in combat or driving my car, my wife gets an instant 100k 24hrs later. A couple of months later she gets 450k and benefits for the rest of her life. The benefits ends when she re marries. I get 100k if anything happens to her. 8. Opportunity to travel. I cannot mention how many countries i have been to free of charge. 9. Opportunity to lead people. The training and opportunity to lead people is unquantifiable. I have over 50 people i teach, coach, mentor and lead. If America was that racist, i would not have the opportunity. 10. First in line for any federal job (you want this) when i decide to get out. The only negative i have so far is the lack of access to Nigerian food. Considering all the positive though, i think i can live with that. 7 Likes |

You obviously didn't read through. I acknowledged the fact that jobs are available for those with relevant (foreign ) qualifications and experience. However someone who is a bank manager in Nigeria should not expect to walk into the United Kingdom and get a well-paying job with a high street London bank. There are far too many Nigerians without the requisite foreign experience and qualifications who end up roaming around with no destination. not always the case ,my cousin's banking experience in Nigeria helped him land a bank job when he emigrated to detroit. As regards women, unless your case is hopeless there are lots of lonely and uninhibited women in Europe and North America.
