Search by our correspondent on Monday shows that some subscribers had started tapping into the exposure opportunity offered by the account for commercial gains in contrast to its original objective — political engagement.
Citing his company’s address and telephone lines, one Aremu Patrick, on Sunday, went to the review section to advertise herbal products.
“We will stun your imagination, and our treatments are with guarantee. We send prepared solutions to our clients within and outside the country,” noted the advertorial.
“Do you need a visa to the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada or Schengen for family visit, tourism or schooling? Would you want your application handled professionally for better results? No money deposit is required. Our job is easier if you have a family, a job or a business. Call us for a discussion,” said another post by Emmanuel Onuoha.
Though such posts are becoming a regular practice on social media, that they have become daily sights on the PDP’s platform may be raising a concern.
Its Facebook posts are also beginning to record fewer and fewer comments and likes.
For instance, a press statement on the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas controversial remittances it posted on its website and Facebook on Sunday had attracted only two comments and seven likes by Monday, 18 hours after it was published. The same account used to record hundreds of comments in a few hours after an update.
In the statement, the opposition said the All progressives Congress lied on its submission about the tax revenue it claimed the previous administration had misappropriated.
It argued, “The truth is that the NLNG had been on a 10-year tax haven until 2014. Within this period, successive administrations never shared or tampered with the cumulative dividends.
“Whatever taxes paid from the NLNG went through the Federal Inland Revenue Services and was recorded as part of the income of the Federal Government. It is important to note that by the end of the tenure of Goodluck Jonathan, NLNG dividends had risen to $5.6bn and not a single cent was taken from the money.”
