Impeachment: Aregbesola Responds To Osun Judge’s Allegations - PUNCH by Naijaland12: 3:10am On Jul 16, 2015
Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has responded to the petition written against him by a serving judge in the state, Justice Folahanmi Oloyede.

The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Najeem Salaam, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo, the state capital, on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Goke Butika.

Oloyede, in a petition to the state House of Assembly, had accused Aregbesola of financial recklessness and asked the lawmakers to impeach the governor.

The Speaker, who had earlier confirmed that the Assembly had forwarded the petition to the governor for his response, said the lawmakers could not do anything until they received the governor’s response.

The statement read in part, “Osun State House of Assembly has expressed its readiness to address the petition sent to it by a judge of the State High Court, Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede, having obtained the response of Governor Rauf Aregbesola on the matter.

“The detailed response of the state helmsman was obtained on Tuesday, compelling the parliament to set machinery in motion on the investigation of allegations of financial hiccups and her position for the preparation of impeachment article against the governor, among other issues.

“The parliament would be fair and thorough in investigating all the issues raised with a view to reaching a logical end that would give all parties concerned sense of justice without fear or favour.

“I have constituted an investigative committee that will look into the petition forwarded by Justice Oloyede, and I have given the committee the mandate to interact with Justice Oloyede in person.

“Justice Oloyede is in the best position to further shed light on her position as expressed. However, I assure all the parties concerned that the matter would be treated with fairness and sense of justice without fear or favour.”

Meanwhile, the Coalition of Groups for Good Governance has berated the judge for asking the Assembly to impeach the governor.

The Chairman of CGGG, Waheed Adediran, said this in a statement made available to our correspondent in Osogbo.

Adediran said, “It is unambiguous that the petition forwarded to the Osun State House of Assembly by Justice Folahanmi Oloyede is not known to law and not capable of initiating any form of impeachment process whatsoever.

“In pursuant to section 188 (1) (2) and section 1 (1) of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, the petition in question is a mere letter that does not deserve any attention.”

The group also said the governor was not guilty of allegation of financial recklessness levelled against him by the judge.

Adediran explained that the crash in the price of crude oil and crude oil theft during the regime of former President Goodluck Jonathan was responsible for the reduction in revenue allocation to Osun.

He said that Aregbesola had worked hard to raise the state’s internally generated revenue from N300m per month to N1.6 bn per month, adding that the governor had done so much to develop the state.

I might not be privy to the inner workings of the laws guiding Osun State or Nigeria as a whole.
But isn't Justice Oloyede a Nigerian who has a duty of patriotism to call out any unfairness she notices...be it in top tiers of government, or among the masses?

However, on a flip side this time, being a judge and at the same time, the one who levels these allegations do not augur well.
I equally think that people who enforce our laws shouldn't be so obviously tilting to a particular side as it might mean that they have been compromised.

On the contrary, this statement
Adediran explained that the crash in the price of crude oil and crude oil theft during the regime of former President Goodluck Jonathan was responsible for the reduction in revenue allocation to Osun.
by Adediran is what I find absolutely crass and bereft of common sense.

Aregbs should stop grasping at straws over his lack of proactiveness and administrative incompetency.
If he wishes, he can ask past Governors Peter Obi and Kwankwaso how they managed to turn around their states with little going for them from the federal purse and absence of security votes respectively.

You call this a response to the many weighty allegations?
If he's been able to raise IGR to N1.6b , why can't he combine two months IGR to pay salaries & pensions for one month?. With this the state has no reason whatsoever for owing because the monthly allocation no matter how little shoild be able to take care of wage bills, while the IGR augments & takes care of other expenses. Our dear ogbeni is fooling himself & his gullible/dogmatic followers. Instead of saying the whole truth that the reduced state allocation is further greatly reduced by banks who deduct their loans from the source, he's deceiving gullible citizens of the state. If Osun's IGR is that high, the state should not be languishing in poverty now.
B'eni t'a n p'aro fun o ba mo, eni t'o n paro mo pe'ro l'ohun pa (I.e. if he who's being lied to doesn't know, the one who tells the lie knows)
Gbogbo Osun, a ku iroju at'ifarada o. When we have to it to the brim, we'll do the needful by staging protests which defy his hired thugs & pressure the house to impeach the bastard and send him back to his oga in Lagos.

My own questions to Aregbe are:

1. What happened to the much publicised Opon Imo? Was it not a plot to defraud the state. Will the money spent on that failed project not have been better on a physical edifice - a library? What is the relationship between the contractor and the governor?

2. Why was the school uniform of schools in the state made to be of one type? Is it not to create a monopoly and to enrich the sole contractor? What is the relationship between the contractor and the governor?

3. The money collected from the banks were meant to start and complete the various projects. The banks disbursed the money in full. Why were the projects not completed then? Your guess is as good as mine.

4. Why were the projects not done in phases? Now abandoned projects are littering the whole state. Maybe the more capital expenditure you make, the more money you see for your own benefit. Just thinking loud.

Justice Oloyede raised salient questions that cannot be brushed aside by people that really have the state at heart. Party politics and religious propaganda will not debar anyone from asking and demanding answer to this salient questions, most especially the tax payers that will continue to demand for better governance and administration of their sweat.

These are questions that must be answered by Mr. Governor.
