Nigeria’ll support use of nuclear technology -Buhari JULY 16, 2015 : OLALEKAN ADETAYO, ABUJA 2 Comments President Muhammadu Buhari President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday said Nigeria under his leadership would continue to support the use of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and human development only. A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, quoted the President as speaking during a meeting with visiting Iranian Vice President for Executive Affairs, Mohammed Shariatmadari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The President was said to have told his guest that Nigeria welcomes this week’s agreement between Iran and the six world powers on its nuclear programme. Buhari described the agreement as a major step towards ensuring peace and stability in the Middle East. The statement added, “The President said that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Nigeria looks forward to the faithful implementation of the terms of the agreement by all concerned parties. “President Buhari, who received an invitation from the Iranian Vice President to attend an upcoming Summit of Gas Exporting Countries in Tehran, remarked that it was in the interest of developing countries to maximize the use of their natural resources for the improvement of the living conditions of their people.” Shariatmadari congratulated Buhari on his election and assured him of Iran’s support in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. “The government of President Hassan Rouhani of Iran advocates moderation and departure from any form of extremism,” he said. www.punchng.com/news/nigeriall-support-use-of-nuclear-technology-buhari/

Nigeria has one of the largest gas deposits on planet earth, with enough natural gas to produce enough electricity to meet the world electricity need, but simply flares the gas and wastes it causing environmental degradation and worsening global warming in spite of electricity shortages in Nigeria. Paradoxically, you'd expect nigeria to build gas powered electricity plants in order to use the wasteful flared gas. But NO!, Nigeria wants to buy uranium for use in nuclear facilities from rogue states as North Korea and Iran. The critical question is , "why won't Nigeria produce enough electricity with all the free gas they possess and have been flaring all these years?" You instantly know something mischievous is in the offing, they aren't interested in producing only electricity with uranium. 2 Likes |

Only that if Nigeria must join the league, it should be situated elsewhere not in Akwa Ibom, please. But nuclear power in an Islamic state is dangerous. |

This is a good development...I just feel Akwa ibom is getting too congested and might not be able to handle it.. A more suitable location should be found preferably in d east.. Ebonyi or Enugu would do... |
