ABUJA- President Mohammadu Buhari on Thursday in Abuja said that Nigeria under his leadership will support nuclear technology only when it is used for peaceful and human development purposes.
Paying host to Iranian Vice President for Executive Affairs, Mohammed Shariatmadari, President Buhari who signed off on the treaty between Iran and six other world powers on its nuclear programme stated that it was a right step taken by Iran to achieve global peace especially in the middle east.
The President said that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Nigeria looked forward to the faithful implementation of the terms of the agreement by all concerned parties.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Vice President has extended an invitation to the president to attend an upcoming Summit of Gas Exporting Countries in Tehran.

While acknowledging the invitation, President Buhari stated that the meeting was in the interest of developing countries to maximize the use of their natural resources for the improvement of the living conditions of their people.

A statement from presidetial spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina stated that the visiting Shariatmadari congratulated President Buhari on his election and assured him of Iran’s support in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

“The government of President Hassan Rouhani of Iran advocates moderation and departure from any form of extremism,’’ he said.
