For some, the room is a chilling space and it’s meant for enjoyment of all sorts while to others it’s a library which is mostly common when all seats are filled and some decided to turn the school library to their bedrooms, then you know exam is stepping into the room. Some also prefer staying glued to their rooms in order to avoid being stalked up by mates who only stroll about the reading rooms aimlessly looking for who to call “iwe!“, “First classer!“, “efiko!“.

This idea to some people is like barking up the wrong tree as they can hardly cope reading in the room without distractions while some are comfortable with it, it varies.

Here are some of the things to ensure if you are one of the Students Who Study In The Room/Hostel.

KEEP YOUR PHONE FAR FROM YOU

: The truest greatness lie you will tell yourself is to keep your phone at a distance less than 20metres and claim you are reading. It works if you are using itel N205 on which the only meaningful thing you can do is text your dad, even calling a friend on such phone won’t be clear, something like future’s voice. But a blackberry user, who has pings screaming up every minute will find it difficult to ignore the messages and concentrate. You might also decide to check a friend’s updated status after being notified by Facebook, or probably check Linda Ikeji for some smart rumours. If possible, do away with your phone while reading in your room.
DON’T ANNOUNCE YOUR AVAILABILITY

: If you are to study successfully in your room, endeavour to make yourself seem unavailable to neighbours. This is like the best thing since sliced bread for ladies pretty ladies. It’s obviously inevitable for you to stop that guy from coming around your room even though you shunned him the previous day. Therefore, the best you could do is to pretend like you are away for that moment in order not to be caught between two stools.
AVOID USING THE BED

: Reading in your room and you are comfortably lying on the bed with your legs crossed? I doubt if education was that comfortable. In such condition, you are bound to sleep off at any moment and you will discover you have actually gained nothing. That is a far cry from what is referred to as serious reading. I’d rather you got a study desk with a chair of corresponding height and make use of it.
KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT

: “Messi better pass Ronaldo na!”, “Nicki Minaj’s assets are artificial!”, “Mr Ibu has a pumped stomach!“…These are useless arguments that you can’t help but listen to in students’ hostels. You must learn to keep your mouth and ears shut when issues like this ensue. If you are the type that can’t do but jump up and take the matter to the head as if Nicki Minaj was your cousin then kindly pack up your books and head to the library, because you will definitely get distracted.

The wise man bridges the gap to success by laying out the path by means of which he can get from where he is to where he wants to go. If you know you are not the type that can read in the hostel, don’t deceive yourself. Head to the library to read what you have to read and leave the rest to God.
