Sokoto Education Development Trust Fund Executes N56m Projects by zyzx(m): 8:59am On Jul 19, 2015
The Sokoto Education Development Trust Fund
(SEDTF) said it executed projects worth more than
N56 million across the state.

Chairman of the fund and second republic
president, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, disclosed this in
Sokoto on Saturday at the fund’s 13th Annual
General Meeting.

“The fund as at June 30, 2015, had a total sum of
N85 million in its various bank accounts,” Shagari
stated.

He said the executed projects were purchase of various sets of Islamic books which were distributed to mosquesin the 23 local governments in the state and Information Communication Technology training for youths.

Other projects, according to him, included training
of women on vocational trades, skills acquisition
training and disbursement of bursaries to indigent
youths.

The former president commended the Sultanate
council, Sokoto State Government and other
donors to the fund for their sustained moral and
financial support to it.

In his speech, the state governor, Aminu
Tambuwal, promised to support the fund as it
accorded priority to education. Tambuwal extolled the sterling contributions of the Sultan of Sokoto and fund, to the education development of the state.

“Leadership cannot succeed without listening to the yearnings and aspirations of the governed and we shall endeavour to always do this.

“We will do everything humanly possible to move
the state forward in all ramifications as well as
ensure sustained peace and unity of Nigeria.

“If you say education is expensive and you neglect
it, then try ignorance, and be ready to bear the
myriad negative consequences on the nation,” the
governor stated.

In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad
Abubakar, solicited support to the fund to enable it
to succeed in its laudable activities.

Abubakar promised to continue to assist the fund
with morally and financially, saying that it was
greatly complementing the efforts of the
government in providing education to the people.
He commended Tambuwal and his predecessor,
Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, for according education
priority attention.

The monarch further commended Shagari for
providing credible leadership to the fund in spite of
his age.
