The Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) has partnered with UNICEF and the Anambra state Ministry of Budget & Economic Planning in a one day media action aimed at empowering rural farmers with information about government agricultural programmes and policies.

Speaking at the event which held today, Wednesday, July 15, 2015 in Awka, the ABS MD/CEO said that His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano had high regards for farmers and the agricultural sector hence the inclusion of agriculture as one of the Four pillars of his administration. He called on well meaning Ndi Anambra to support the media action by donating materials such as radio and TV sets which will be passed on to the farmers.

Three hundred and fifty radio sets were given to three hundred and fifty farmers selected from five local governments in the state. The local governments are Anambra East, Anambra West, Ogbaru, Ayamelu and Oyi.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Umeobi Andrew Obinwa who represented the Special Adviser to the Governor of Budget & Economic Planning, Mr Mark Okoye assured the farmers of the ministry's support at all times and charged them to put the radio sets given to them to good use. He promised that the media action will extend to other local governments in the future.

In his remarks, the Chairman of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Anambra state Chapter (ALFAN), Chief Alex Ebogha thanked the ABS, UNICEF and the Ministry of Budget & Economic Planning for the gesture saying that farmers in the state will continue to support the Willie Obiano administration to achieve the governments agricultural agenda in the state.

In a goodwill message, His Royal Highness, Igwe Augustine Ilochi of Mkpunando-Otu, Aguleri thanked the government of Chief Willie Obiano for the one billion Naira micro credit scheme being administered through Anambra state Small Business Agency (ASBA) saying that this would help boost agriculture in the state.

The UNICEF Programme Manager in the Ministry, Mr. B. U Azi assured the farmers that UNICEF will always support their programmes.
