There is uncertainty over the fate of Gordon Obua, the Chief Security Officer to former President Goodluck Jonathan, who is being detained by the Department of State Service. It was gathered on Monday that the health of Obua, who had been in custody since last Thursday at the DSS headquarters, Abuja, might have deteriorated. Our correspondent gathered that the DSS operative had been battling with diabetics and hypertension, which might have worsened following his detention and inability to get proper medical care. Obua’s condition could not be immediately ascertained, but security sources stated that the health of the former CSO had “taken a nosedive.” The former CSO was taken into custody following investigations into how security vote at the Presidential Villa under his watch was spent. It was gathered that Obua as CSO commanded a huge amount of money as security vote, which could not be accounted for. The DSS has yet to publicly admit that the security operative is in detention or declare the reason for his arrest, fueling speculation that Obua was detained as part of a plot to embarrass the Jonathan administration. The DSS could not be reached for comment, as it has yet to announce a new spokesperson, but Obua’s lawyer, Onochie Onwuegbuna, had earlier issued a statement in which he accused the DSS of denying his client his medications. He also complained about the conditions under which he was being detained and demanded Obua’s unconditional release. “Our client is hypertensive and diabetic to the knowledge of his employers, and as a result, he has been on daily medications to manage these very severe ailments and since his detention, he has completely been denied access to these medications. “Our client has also been denied access to members of his family, his doctor and his lawyers, and even more worrisome is the information obtained by his family that he has not eaten or drank water since he was detained,” the statement read. Onwuegbuna alleged that his client was being “witch-hunted as part of a plan against marked individuals, who served and held offices in the Jonathan administration, in other to implicate them by all means for phantom offences.” Obua’s family also accused the Director-General, DSS, Lawal Daura, of plotting to watch Obua die in detention. The family stated that no allegation had been brought against Obua so far, noting that his whereabouts had been unknown since last week Thursday. http://www.punchng.com/news/fears-over-health-of-jonathans-chief-security-officer/ |

I still need to know how a CSO is hypertensive. Is this possible? In developed countries, people that are hypertensive are not even allowed to work in high rise buildings, how much more security agencies. |
