I've got some friends who are willing to share their networks with me via wifi, but the problem is that we don't know how to go about it. Can anybody please help. I'd liked to know how to share files as well (ie getting a specific file or folder from one PC to the other wirelessly)

Open NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER >>> MANAGE NETWORK CONNECTIONS. Right click on WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION, click on PROPERTIES, click on INTERNET PROTOCOL VERSION 4 (TCP/IPv4), click on Properties, then click on the input box: "Use the following IP address", input 192.168.0.1, press enter. Then go to the properties of the LOCAL AREA CONNECTION (That's if the person sharing is using cable, if It's dial up, go to its properties), on the sharing tab, check the ALLOW OTHER NETWORK USERS TO CONNECT THROUGH THIS COMPUTER'S INTERNET CONNECTION check box.
