The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a man,
Dayo Abdullahi, before an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court for
allegedly stealing a car battery.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the battery, which
belonged to one Musa Sanud and valued at N14,000,
was allegedly stolen at about 6.30am at the Ojota area
of the state.
The charge read, “That you, Dayo Abdullahi, of no fixed
address, on July 21, 2015, at about 6.30am at Ojota,
Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did steal a Volvo
car battery, valued at N14,000, property of one
Musa Sanud, and thereby committed an offence
punishable under Section 285 of the Criminal Law of
Lagos State, 2011.”
The defendant pleaded guilty and was sentenced to
one year imprisonment by the magistrate, Mrs. O.
Sule-Amzat.
However, in a dramatic twist, Abdullahi allegedly
attempted to escape from custody, while his papers
were being processed at about 2.40pm.
It was gathered that the convict attempted to
escape by breaking the ceiling of the court cell where
he was kept.
The 40-year old was, however, apprehended and
arraigned again before the court on two counts of
felony.
The charges read in part, “That you, Dayo Abdullahi, of
no fixed address on July 21, 2015, at about 2.40pm,
at Ogudu Magistrate’s Court, Ogudu, in the Ogudu
Magisterial District, being a convict and while in the
Ogudu court cell, did attempt to commit felony to wit;
escape from lawful custody, by climbing the court
ceiling and breaking it and thereby commited an
offence punishable under Section 404 of the Criminal
