The Lagos State Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise will hold on Saturday 25th July,2015 between the hours of 7.00am – 10.00am with its attendant restriction of human and vehicular activities.According to Engr.Hakeem Ogunbambi,Permanent Secretary,Ministry of the Environment,Lagosians are implored to troop out massively and actively‎ participate in the cleaning exercise. He also advised residents to ensure the tidiness of their immediate surrounding including the drains in front of their tenement as they serves as passage for storm water. In his words,”The Monthly Sanitation Exercise is important in order to have a Clean and Hygiene Environment towards the prevention of germs,diseases and to also encourage investment opportunities in the state”.He said that the Ministry of the Environment has sped up its mid-rain dredging,cleaning and maintenance of drainage channels across the state as part of its strategy to reduce the incidence of flooding. He therefore,advised entire Lagosians to be alert,but not panic as the State‎ Government has put in place measures to contain flood related issues in the State.He further charged Lagosians to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on drainage channels and other acts that compromise drainage alignment,such as building and election of structures on drainage setbacks among others. He added that ‎the essence is to facilitate the free flow of drainages.The Permanent Secretary enjoined residents to desist from patronizing cart p‎ushers and other acts which violates the Waste Management policy of the State Government.He warned interstate Bus Operators, Luxurious Bus Operators, State Transport Owners and Road Transport Workers Association to obey and comply with the restriction of Human/ Vehicular movement order between 7.00 am – 10.00am stressing that any vehicle caught violating this order will be dealt with appropriately, while Passengers in such vehicles will be prosecuted according to the State Sanitation Laws.Engr.Ogunbambi appealed to Lagosians to join hands with State Government in its effort to rid thestate of all forms of environmental menance.He further assured that Law Enforcement Agencies including the Nigerian Police,Officials from LAWMA,LASTMA and KAI have been fully mobilised to enforce the Sanitation Laws.
