Robbers, police in gun battle, three arrested

After about 30 minutes of gun battle, some policemen arrested three suspected armed robbers in Lagos on Saturday.

The suspects were said to have snatched a Toyota Corolla saloon car with registration number FD 368 EKY on the previous day.

The policemen, who were attached to Oko-Oba Police Station, received a tip-off that led to their encounter with the suspects.

The tip-off, it was learnt, took the security men to Abule-Egba area of Lagos where the suspected robbers were said to be hiding.

After minutes of a shoot-out with the robbers, the policemen were able to arrest three while others escaped.

The names of the arrested suspects were given as Oke Olalekan, Gbenga Sofoluwe and Sulaiman Olanrewaju.

After the arrest, the policemen recovered the stolen Toyota car from the suspects.

Besides, another car, an Opel Omega, allegedly being used by the suspects for their nefarious activities, was recovered from them.

The car, registered RL 734 KJA, was said to contain two pump action guns and 33 live cartridges.

The recovered vehicles and the weapons were first taken to Oko-Oba Police Station, where the suspects were interrogated.
