Anxiety As Ogun Residents Uncover Ritualist Den by dictbennie(m): 9:49am On Jul 28, 2015 |
… human parts, shrine, clothings found Confusion, anger and anxiety enveloped the Inu’osegba community within Akorede Estate, Mile II axis of Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State yesterday, as residents uncovered a bungalow building suspected to be a ritualists’ den. The building in which severed human wrist, pupil’s school bags and uniforms were found, was uncovered by a search party following the mysterious disappearance of an 18 months old baby identified as Hezekiah Opeyemi Ogundele, who got missing during the preparation for a naming ceremony in the area Sunday afternoon. National Mirror gathered that following the disappearance of the child, the celebrants had to put the naming ceremony on hold indefinitely, while apprehensive guests and residents began to comb surrounding bushes and homes in search of the baby. Our correspondent also gathered that the suspected ritualists’ den from where putrid stench of decomposed human flesh was oozing out allegedly belonged to one traditional worshipper and Ifa priest identified as Chief Olasile Ifayemi who is however, on the run. The development however, forced the angry residents to storm the area yesterday Monday and vandalised the building where several other severed human parts such as hands, a woman’s breast and intestines as well as other fetish objects were discovered at the detached rooms within the bungalow which also has a shrine. As at the time journalists visited the scene, various clothes, women’s underwear like bras, pants and other apparels suspected to belong to victims of the ritualists and masquerade regalia were also found inside the building. Fetish objects, including a human effigy made of wood, padlocks wrapped in black and white threads and assorted charms as well as other ritual items were also discovered in one of the rooms. Angry youths threatened to set the building ablaze as at the time our correspondent visited the scene. It was further gathered that a commercial motorcycle operator who visited the building in the wee hour of yesterday Monday had been arrested and handed over to the police at the Lafenwa Divisional Police Headquarters, Abeokuta. Operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, were sighted making frantic effort to control the enraged crowd who were bent on bringing down the building by setting it ablaze. Narrating her ordeal, the 26 years old mother of the toddler stated that she had gone to celebrate the birth of a new-born baby with her brother, Olusola Osunleke, who resides in the area when the incident occurred. “I then ran outside the house into the streets, still searching and that was when I encountered two persons at Chief Ifayemi’s house. I asked if they had seen my son, they denied and started giggling. So, I left them and continued to search for him,” she said. Ogundele stated that it was in the process of the search for her missing son that the alleged ritualists’ den was later discovered. The mother of the toddler alleged that she “strongly” suspected the two occupants she met earlier inside the suspected ritualists’ den while searching for her son shortly after he disappeared and from whom she had inquired the boy’s whereabouts, for the alleged crime. Shedding tears, she pleaded with the police and Nigerians to help her find her child who would clock one year and eight months tomorrow to save her from her current agony. But while confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Abdul-Majid Ali, said there was no link between the disappearance of the toddler and the discovery of the alleged ritualists’ den. Ali, however, assured that the police have commenced investigations on the matter and would make its findings public http://nationalmirroronline.net/new/anxiety-as-ogun-residents-uncover-ritualist-den/ |
