Your Role Model In Corporate Nigeria? by Jarus(m): 11:55am On Mar 17, 2009 |
Who is your role model in corporate Nigeria. I mean who among Nigeria's top CEOs and other company chiefs do you admire most and will like to be. Mine is FOLA ADEOLA. I also admire the following guys(Honourable mention): -Wale Tinubu, Oando -Sanusi Lamido, First bank Can we know your own? |

Hi Jarus, I'm going to go with you on Fola Adeola. For many years, GTB stood out on account of their no-frills, can-do banking attitude, and their principled, efficient and disciplined staff. Maybe it's a bit diluted now, but back then I was really impressed by a couple of things about GTB's staff: 1. They never used to hire staff except at Entry Level and Senior Manager. That's some good continuity by promoting through the ranks. 2. Their training school was a beacon in the sector. Considering that the man himself does not have a significant silver spoon entry like Tinubu and Lamido Sanusi, as well as an Oxford-Cambridge-Harvard pedigree, I would say he is definitely a role model for Nigerian business. Incidentally, HBS has made case studies of GT Bank in the past. I'll try to dig up the cases and post for general consumption. Peace. |

Among the older generation: Oba Otudeko, Subomi Balogun, Felix Ohiwerei, the Ibru brothers. These are the 'old school' guys who i would not mind being apprenticed to Among the young guys: Tony Elumelu (with all the past rumours, changing regulations, his sharp practices and cowboy moves, he is still standing. Beats my imagination), Fola Adeola and Aig-Imoukhuede of Access Bank |

AjanleKoko:Fola Adeola is no doubt a boardroom guru, a visionary manager of human and material resources. The brand he built for GTB still makes the bank a reference point in corporate governance in the country. hellypelly:I think I need to read more about this man. He is a NED in my company, but I know little about him. I will try and lay my hand on his profile. jaguda:Emeka Anyaoku is not a player in corporate Nigeria. Ditto for Fashola and Senator Obi. tboy1:I have known this insurance guru for a while now. Good choice, tboy. Epiphany:Among the older generation, I also greatly admire Oba Otudeko and SB. These guys laid the foundation for what can now be called a booming corporate Nigeria. There was also this man, Femi Adekanye, then Chairman/CEO of the defunct Commerce bank, who I also looked up to in the early 1990s when becoming a banker used to be all I had in my head. Pitiably, the failed bank saga of the mid 1990s swept him and his bank. |

I go for my lovely brother Kola Agunleti of Kayo Moore Micro Ltd. He teach me how to fish when non of these your men could not give me fish to eat after my B.Sc and some professional qualification -"plenfiful application". He role modeled me to the extent I now employ people to work for me. In my own opinion, being a role model is not about what u have or do, but how u touched my life positively to be relevant within the society. Kudos to you my guy. |

Most of this guys up there are opportunists who either started of with Government stolen money or some other fishy funds. Lets look for people who started from scratch. Like Soludo and Anyaoku. |
