Nice job by op..but really i wonder why the regency culture is observed in certain instances in a kingdom and it is not being observed in other instances. You may kindly research this. I really empathise with the women because to put one's life on hold for the sake of culture is.a high price to pay. BTW, are you aware that Akure has a regent? |

As a non Yoruba i find this truly fascinating. I mean i never heard of this culture before. Its just amazing. For me it shows the high esteem placed on women in that part of the country. Anyway i think its unfair the last woman is not allowed to have sex with the husband. I mean the late chief abi oba are allowed wives and what not so why not a woman. If its not getting pregnant I can understand that but not having sex - so not fair to me. 1 Like |

noted Do you live in Akwa Ibom State? Do you relish the desire to own your own business with little start up capital and promising returns in investment? Do you hope to look into the mirror each morning and know you are talking to the boss? Are you enterprising?/Would you love to be? Do you have an aptitude for thinking out of the box? Then call or add me up on whatsapp 08085188110. You will be glad you did |

cbrass: I don't think it's about weakness. Even though they are relatively small chiefdoms/dukedoms in reality. I think it's more about organisation of smooth succession. Premogeniture would solve this issue of regency. Regency would only happen if the monarch was incapacitated (crown prince becomes regent) or the crown prince was an infant/minor. In Yorubaland where premogeniture is not usually practiced, there are too many succession dispute cases in courts. Sometimes for years and years. It all becomes very political. Just like Lamido Sanusi case last time in Kano. In other places like Benin, Warri & Agbor, the monarch is born, not chosen by kingmakers. One has to weigh the chance of all qualified princes to contest against stability and smoothness of succession. |
