The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a criminal charge before a Lagos High Court in Igbosere against an influential member of the popular Ibru family, Goodie Minabo Ibru, over alleged N1.3 billion fraud.
Goodie, who is the elder brother of late Guardian founder, Alex Ibru, was charged alongside three corporate organisations – Associated Ventures International Limited, IHL Services Limited and Clearview Investment Limited – for allegedly conspiring to fraudulently steal various sums belonging to Ikeja Hotel Plc.
The accused persons, who were charged before Justice Raliatu Adebiyi are to face an 11-count-charge bordering on fraud.
The crime, according to the charge No. LD/1711C/2015 and dated July 13, 2015, was allegedly committed between 2010 and 2015.
Specifically, the EFCC alleged that Goodie and the three companies, between January and December 2010, conspired together to steal the sum of N867,700,900 property of Ikeja Hotel Plc.
In addition, EFCC alleged that between June and October 2010, within Lagos judicial division, Ibru and the corporate organisations conspired together to fraudulently convert the sum of N55.1 million, property of Ikeja Hotels, to personal use.
The prosecution alleged further that the accused persons used another company, Sherwood Limited, as conduct pipe to fraudulently siphon N55 million from Ikeja Hotels.
The four defendants were also alleged to have fraudulently received a sum of £10,075 through Sherwood Nigeria Limited, as profit due to Ikeja Hotel plc.
Also EFCC alleged that between March and October 2010, the four defendants unlawfully converted $13,373 belonging to Ikeja Hotel Plc to personal use through Sherwood Limited (Managers of Sheraton Hotels, Ikeja.)
According to the prosecution, the four defendants in February 2011 fraudulently converted to personal use, the sum of N27.5 million belonging to Ikeja Hotel Plcs, while the fourth defendant, Clearview Investment Limited, was alleged to have been used as conduit pipe for the controversial deal.
Between January and February 2015, EFCC alleged that the four defendants dishonestly converted the sum of N21.3 million belonging to Ikeja Hotel Plc to their personal use which was alleged to have been unlawfully received through Sherwood Limited.
According to the charge preferred against the defendants, between April and October 2011, the EFCC alleged that they converted the sum of N120.5 million, property of Ikeja Hotel Plc to their personal use. The money was allegedly received through Sherwood Limited.
In addition, between February and December 2011, the prosecution alleged that the defendants dishonestly converted to their personal use, £50,609 and $20,603, property of Ikeja Hotel Plc.
The offences preferred against the accused persons, according to the prosecution, are contrary to and punishable under Sections 16, 370 (7) (b) and 9 of the Criminal Code Cap C.17 vol. 11, Laws of Lagos State, 2003

Where was EFCC between 2010 and February 2015 when the offences were committed?

Well, Newton has finished everything in his 1st law (law of inertia);

An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force. An object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.
