Why should he facilitate their return? Benin republic that is a trekkable distance to lagos. If they want to come back the government should not be responsible for that.

I see many Nigerians jump to saying how irresponsible PMB is or how clueless he is to make such statement, but let's b frank with ourselves, Buhari told them d best tin dia IMO. Y pretend that d country can sustain dem ATM when we know it can't even take care of those inside at present. If sm1 z doing fine in a place n u ask him to liv dia it must b for a beta place n in dis case z clearly not so. Pmb didn't make nig so n he only jux assumed power so I think if he make such statement next yr or 2 yrs time nig can complain bcuz he ought to ab improve d country by den n obviously not now.. Nig go beta but na gradually..

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians in Benin Republic planning to return to the country to stay back for now.

Look at this statement critically. What does for now mean? Did he ever say that they should never come back.

Fine, you said he ought to create an enabling environment for self reliance and employment. Please tell me in your right senses if he is going to be able to do all that in one day. Is it not sensible enough while those over there have jobs, they stick to it while he creates that enabling platform?. Did he ever say he was doing nothing about creating that kind of platform here in the country?.

We've not even finished dealing with the vast job seekers present in the country today and you want him to add more to the problems.

Greetings all.

Please fellow Niaralanders, let us try to address issues factually regardless of our feelings for or against the person or persons concerned.

On this issue, let me say that in the past I have advised Nigerians abroad not to return the country for a variety of reasons, indeed whenever the topic comes up here on NL and I advise somebody to remain abroad quite a lot of abuse comes my way, but that's fine, the fact is any of us can advice fellow Nigerians anyway we feel.
However for Buhari it is very very different. Buhari is the PRESIDENT of this country. The presidency is more than just a job, it is also a symbol. Buhari is the living, breathing manifestation of our country. Anywhere he goes there is Nigeria, when he speaks, that his the voice of Nigeria. For the PRESIDENT of a country to tell fellow citizens not to return to the country is a monumental embarrassment and if we had a more active and neutral press you would be seeing the blow back by this morning. No matter how bad the situation in the country is, a President NEVER talks down this country, more so when abroad.
For those of you saying that Buhari only said the truth, well there are many other truths, so what else would like Buhari to start saying? Maybe he should tell us all Nigerian students not to attend Universities as they are sub standard(It's the truth). Maybe he should tell all consumers not to buy made in Nigeria shoes as they are sub standard (It's the truth)...don't you see the point here? Just because something is 'The Truth' does not mean a President should go around shouting it, rather he should be looking for ways to change it.
Why could he throw down a challenge to the the Nigerians in Benin? Tell them your country needs you, we need you to come back to Nigeria to help in rebuilding the nation, to help create jobs, to help move the country forward...That's what a LEADER should do. Buhari has once again shown that while he may be a very honest and upstanding man, he servery lacks in the communication skills needed for a modern leader.

As a Nigerian currently residing in Benin Republic, I think this statement is not quite bad. In fact, knowing what is obtainable here as comparable with home, I think the president is really right to conclude that we are better off. Nigerians don't just like to hear the truth said back to them in an unambiguous form.
