Despite the barrage of petitions for the reversal of death sentences handed out to soldiers, the Army is still determined to punish those found guilty.

This is coming against reports of an ongoing review of the army’s administrative and disciplinary cases which has already given credence to total dismissal of all mutiny cases.

The Nigerian Army has already initiated proceedings for the prosecution of a total of 579 officers and soldiers for offences bordering on professional misconduct and indiscipline especially in the fight against Boko haram. http://www.post-nigeria.com/petition-nigerian-army-insistent-on-death-sentence/

The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, reacting to these latest development debunked any insinuations of plans to drop cases of misconduct.

In a statement released by his office, Usman reinstated that the current review should not be mistaken for an outright squashing of cases of mutiny.

”The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a correspondence making the rounds in some media regarding an administrative procedure to review some recent disciplinary cases in the Nigerian Army.”

The army who is currently overwhelmed by petitions from Human rights advocates and civil society organisations noted that those petitions would not deter them form meting punishment to soldiers found guilty for various offences
