@topic, insecurity and faithfulness aren't synonyms. An insecure partner may dread the thought of not having his cake anymore after eating it, and so would monitor the partner to be sure she isn't cheating on him as he is cheating on her.

An insecure person feels he isn't good enough for the partner and she'd leave him eventually. Besides a low self-esteem, guilt may also be a reason why someone would feel that way. Faithful guys would likely have less reasons to feel guilty.

I think insecurity is an attitude, as is confidence. Another person can fuel it, but not cause it. The bearer is largely responsible for his attitude.
