Buhari Didn’t Spend N2.2 Billion On U.S. Trip - Garba Shehu by metroparrot: 7:51pm On Aug 05, 2015
Senior Special Assistant To President Muhammudu Buhari on Media and Publicity have asked Nigerians to ignore a recent report putting the total cost of President Muhammudu Buhari’s trip to the US at N2.2 billion, stating that the total figure is around N200 million.

Read the press statement below

Our attention has been drawn to an editorial published in the Nigerian Pilot of August 2, 2015 and an earlier report in which the total cost of President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent trip to the U.S. was estimated at N2.2 billion.
It is very sad that in this age of free-flowing information and in this era of CHANGE, a media organisation would make itself available as a vehicle to peddle a lie of such low and ignominious quality.

Contrary to the newspaper’s assertions, the total cost of the trip to the Nigerian taxpayer was at the most minimal, in line with the policy of this administration to cut waste and extravagance.
In point of fact, the total amount expended on the trip by the Office of the President amounted to nothing near ten per cent of the speculated figure.

Owing to the free accommodation provided by the host government, all the personal staff who accompanied the President on the trip received reduced allowances.
His son, Yusuf, received neither allowances nor estacode. The five Governors on the trip each paid his own way. Permanent Secretaries who traveled on the delegation did so in accordance with extant rules and none of them exceeded their estacode entitlements.

Apart from the Nigerian Pilot’s mischievous mathematics, it is shortsighted and misleading of the newspaper to have claimed that President Buhari’s trip to the U.S. achieved nothing.
Nigerian-US relations had suffered severely over the past few years. That relationship has now been reset. The benefits of this symbiotic relationship will become more and more evident as the Buhari administration continues to tackle the challenges of corruption, security and the economy.
Some of the more immediate benefits of the President’s trip to the U.S include: the proposed $2.1 billion fund from the World Bank for the re-development of the northeast battered by Boko Haram; $5 billion from US investors in Nigeria’s agriculture sector; $1.5 billion investment in the Nigerian health sector; and another $5 billion investment from the U.S. in our country’s power sector.
Also, as things stand at the moment, the embargo on the sale of weapons sales to Nigeria is in the process of being removed.

The trip to the U.S by President Buhari was definitely very successful and beneficial to Nigeria.
Only those rabidly determined to find faults unnecessarily will cook up falsehood in a futile effort to rake up murk where none exists.

Sometimes I wonder why Buhari chooses to answer all his critics..To be frank, some just don't deserve his attention. Some are pained and are meant to wail for the rest of their miserable lives...And he should know this better than anyone.

Why is the April 2015 Nigerian law school examination results not out?

They keep postponing the release of the results keeping a lot of students in morbid tension.

We want change, not delay. Haba!!

Pls the relevant authorities should look into this as a matter of urgency.

Why issue a rebuttal without highlighting the exact or estimated amount which the U.S. trip costed the Nigerian tax payer? Why is it so strenous for our leaders to be precise and transparent when it comes to accountability and it financial responsibility to the citizenry?

The statement claims the 5 governors on the president entourage sponsored themselves to the trip. If we're to go by that statement is the presidency privy of the accrued expenses by these governors on this trip and are governors supposed to dip their hands into state coffers for a federal assignment? Is the presidency telling us that it's not it responsibility to ensure that state funds aren't deployed for a federal jamboree? Furthermore, what was the duty and function of these state governors on the said trip?.

All we keep hearing is this era of change bla bla. Change must be felt and not trumpeted.

Are we saying that the Governors spent resources of their states on a federal trip?

And it took you a fortnight to release a rebuttal to that story. I think its hightime Mr Adesina is shown the door, for he seems not to understand the concept of time when it comes to orientation and information. A minute lost in government time is equivalent to wasting a month. The media team of PMB better shape up or shape out.

Perhaps you don't understand the notion that says democracy is government by the people, of the people, for the people. PMB is answerable to all and sundry because he is a PUBLIC SERVANT. The fact that you believe he should be selective in his communication is very dangerous to the nation and even to you in the long run.Tomorrow may be different and a new government that is indifferent to you could be tasked with leadership. Would you like it if they then replicate the behaviour you are advocating your party to exhibit. He doesn't have to answer us but it is his job to answer us irrespective of our individual affiliations and if we voted for him or not, period.

if the Presidency alone spent #200m, the 5 Governors spent how much? #200m each or #1bn combined together? How much in total did the civil servants spend from hteir suposed office allocation? Give a total run down of the whole expenses put together because all combined are monies belonging to Nigeria and not USA. or is Edo or Imo State now a part of America that the expenses incurred by their leaders to the trip wont be calculated as money spent by Nigeria to visit Obama for a handshake across the atlantic?

allowance?i dnt get, garba u mean say some people were paid for going to u.s to snap pix with obama?

Indeed d normal average nigerian mentality of seeing political office as an opportunity to "go and collect(steal)ur own share of d national cake is true.

Gej's government nd buhari's r nt really different.just dat gej nd his crew stole stupidly such dat even animals were nt ok wit it let alone humans.

Indeed,if u must steal, den u ve to steal wisely,by dat ur"cutting down government expenses"according to buhari, for him to agree to spend #200million on just a four days trip.smh................
