Angolans! Reminiscing of last legislative Election, 2012

In Angola, The National Assembly is duly elected by voters. However, unlike the conventional presidential election process practiced in other African countries, the leader of the largest party or coalition in the National Assembly automatically becomes President in Angola.
The People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), is a political party that has ruled Angola since the country’s independence from Portugal in 1975.
Legislative elections were last held in Angola on 31 August 2012. During 2012 pre election period, there were series of allegations on the government by the major opposition party (UNITA) which included corruption and lack of transparency. Also, there was unrest with several protests and arrests on the day before 2012 election.
It should be noted that though UNITA accepted the result of the National Assembly elections in 1992, it rejected that of the presidential elections, citing cases of fraud. This led the party into resuming civil war. Election processes were greatly affected as elections were not held during the civil war. The civil war ended in 2002, following the death of UNITA’s leader, Jonas Savimbi in an ambush.....................
