NUJ To Publish List of Registered Bloggers

Chigozie Effe, Abuja

The newly elected President of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abdulwaheed Odusile has disclosed that NUJ would regulate activities of bloggers in the country.

Odusile make this known in exclusive interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Friday.

He said: “One of the things we promised during our campaign was that we were going to sanitize the social media. It’s really a big problem to us. We have talked about it carefully. One of the areas we intend to look at, to see if we can bring some form of regulation is the social media especially the bloggers and the people operating the twitter among others.

“Nigerians like gossip a lot, instead of going for the real news, they believe what is being chunked out in the social media and it spreads like a wild fire. For instance some suggested to us to produce a list of bloggers. The onus is now on you who is not on that list to prove yourself that you are good enough to be on that list.”

Trash!!!

In as much as I dont support bloggers who peddle false information, there's no way you can regulate blogging. You can register those who are interested in your registration. Others will still be blogging away. There's no incentive or otherwise of the registration. Whether Lindaikeji register or not, people go visit the site. Same goes with Sahara Reporters.

Indeed. Additionally many of them are stuck in the past and still believe that we remain in a military dictatorship where rulership was by decrees.

What a load of bull crap. I hope this is not a way the government wants to come down on freedom of expression. This is democracy.

These incompetent deadwoods should get a life. Which law gives you the power to regulate the social media? Old fools still stuck in the MKO and Iwuanyanwu era of Concord and Champion Newspapers.. Better face your dying print media that specialises in collecting 'brown emvelopes' from politicians.
