In Fairness What Is Affecting You Guys Is Also Affecting Farmers. There Is An Astronomical Increase In Cost Of Feed.Add This To Drop In Egg Production And Running Cost Has Also Increased(feeding, medication, staff Salary, transportation Etc). Then You'll Know Farmers Are Also Affected. Blackkie: I was surprised when the Fed. Govt announced that they have signed a MOU with TUNS Farms for supply of Eggs for the proposed school feeding. This kind of program supposed to aim at easing the hardship in the economy by involving Small, Medium and large scale farms and possibly we distributors for the supply but on the contrary, they instead contracted it to just TUNS farm which makes it monopolistic in nature. It is a known fact that TUNS Farms can never meet the target hence they are like to resort to importation and will get a waiver from the govt. Meanwhile the owner of TUNs farm is an APC chieftain in Oshogbo. The good side of this is that all the distributors getting eggs from TUNs will switch to other farms and automatically leads to increase in demand, shortage of supply. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/fg-tuns-farms-sign-n25bn-pact-on-egg-production/151210.html |

All arrows dictates that once the feeding program goes into full force, the big farms and Abuja big wigs who are involved in supplying eggs to the government will just put a call through to the big farms and strike mega deals. this will leave distributors with lesser volume to share there by cusing more scarcity. Unless many investors will get involved in bird rearing before the tempo gets high, the scarcity will be quite much. Note, eggs are in the prohibition list of importation unless this government will do other wise. ghany01: |

Updates Going into poultry business proper can never be a wrong idea now. That the price of eggs have gone high is an old news. However, the real news is that it will linger more than necessary for three major reasons. 1. The cost of maize is too high if it is seen. Many farms are selling off their birds as they cannot feed them as usual. This may ease if the APC government relaxes its ban on importation of agricultural products 2. The present weather – rainy season is a bad period for laying birds. Once the weather is cold or oscillates, the rate of laying is highly jeopardized. 3. Do not forget that the feeding program for primary school pupils have commenced. The contractors handling this project owns no farm that meet such demand thus they will source it from their fellow farmers. This is an increase in demand and no increase in supply. Invariably, it points to elongated scarcity. Until recently, farms are by-passing distributors especially the mega ones. They have established outlets in Lagos and upped their sales rate with their target being direct retailers. What do you need to do now? Expand your search for farms outside Lagos while maintaining your links with the already existing ones. As I write, the destination is Kwara state, Osun state and Oyo states. Make informed calculations and take action. Just this evening about 3 Indomie Joints that I do business with closed shop, reason – NO EGGS! I got so many calls that I have to switch off my phones. Earlier in the week I suggested going into retail of the item proper – keep this idea in view. |

the price of eggs have really escalated in Abuja. you wouldn't believe that a crate of egg medium size goes for 860naira directly from the farm while I give out to retailers at the rate of N900 but I prefer selling those eggs in retail prices (N950) 1 Like |

How to get farms Many new distributors have been asking this question off and on - where are farms and how do one start getting eggs from them? One of the rules of successful marketing comes to the fore - ask for REFERRALS! But from who? Just registering with a farm does it all. Dust your social capital - make friends and offer little help to fellow distributors mostly the archivals. It does not end there, begin to ask them for links. There are many reasons why distributors cling to a given farm, let them recommend you to those farms that they have done business with before. Some of them have slots that they do not use. May be you get it for a token. Note Anyone who sold eggs for one year successfully must have known lots of farms and mega distributors. ASK question please! Doors will be opened for you. |

Over here, its like the tides are vacillating - it reminds me of Nigerian Stock Market. Some stores have not sold off their last weeks supply. There must be a reason:- Many adjusted their sales rate to N35/N40 which made some end users to back off. Lets see what the situation will look like by weekend. But the market sweet now, I no go lie. |

Its like the eggs are everywhere now! I don not think so absolutely. One major thing is effecting the consumption of eggs now - The Ramadan Fast. Its like this week is the worst so far. Even one of my Aboki clients could not exhaust mere 15 crates in one week. He does 15 crates every 4 days before. Can you beat the info? But the mega thing is that the fast is about ending and the boom will return soonest, so also the scarcity. |

I made a comment about organizing a pick up point for new distributors some times in the recent past. The arrangement has been concluded this week. At the moment we have two farms one from Ogbomosho and the other from Ikorodu/Epe involved in the project. We did a test run with their products last weekend. They will be delivering to the designated point [Surulere] twice a week according to bookings. For those interested in this service, get in touch as quickly as you can. At the moment, the farms will make available only 500 crates a week. It is a first come first served affair. Thank you. |

Two days ago was another exqerience in egg distribution - I had an accident and my crates of jumbo size eggs came down from the Keke crashing on the rough Aguda road. For the first time I saw a river of egg flowing. The loss was quite a sour one but lesson learnt. No. 1 Do not use Keke for distribution where the road is bad. No. 2 If you must use Keke, use something like a plank to wedge it at the sides. 1 Like |
