With the season now underway, there are plenty of new faces roaming the English shores.

During the transfer window, there have been a number of high profile transfers and each individual will be wanting to both cement their place in the starting line-up but also within the hearts of the fans.

Whilst they may have made a name for themselves overseas, these Premier League newbies will have to prove themselves once again in what has been acclaimed as the best league in the world.

From France to Ukraine, from the Bundesliga to La Liga, here are the top 10 players who have never appeared in the top flight of English football before 2015/16.

10. JEREMAIN LENS
Sunderland

Joining from Dynamo Kiev for £8 million, Jeremain Lens looks to be a decent signing going forward for Dick Advocaat’s Sunderland. The Dutch attacker has previously worked with the Sunderland boss at both PSV Eindhoven and AZ Alkmaar, so he will more than likely become a regular feature in the starting line-up. Lens has a good goalscoring and assist record and will provide the Black Cats with pace and an extra attacking option that they have lacked in previous campaigns.

9. SERGIO ROMERO
Man United

As a regular for the Argentina national side, Sergio Romero arrives in Manchester as potentially the replacement for David De Gea. The stopper has had a somewhat stranger career, as having made a name for himself at international level, appearing in a World Cup and Copa America final, he’s never really established himself at club level. He earned his first clean sheet at the weekend after the victory over Tottenham.

8. IBRAHIM AFELLAY
Stoke

Stoke will be delighted with the capture of the ex-Barcelona winger in what has been a successful transfer window for Mark Hughes’ side. Afellay will bring a vast amount of experience having had spells at clubs such as PSV Eindhoven, FC Schalke and Olympiakos, as well as Barcleona. Joining on a free transfer, the 29-year-old will give Hughes an extra attacking option and will join up with several familiar faces from his International duty with the Netherlands and his previous spell in Spain.

7. ANDRE AYEW
Swansea

After making 200 appearances for Marseille, Ayew has switched to Swansea City on a four-year deal at the same time his brother Jordan has signed for Aston Villa. The Ghanaian left winger will look to make his mark on the Premier League rather quickly after establishing himself for both club and country. On the opening weekend, he scored on debut against Chelsea and manager Garry Monk will be hoping he can build on his impressive start.

6. GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM
Newcastle

With 80 goals in around 200 appearances, Georginio Wijnaldum comes to Newcastle looking to expand his playing career by making a name for himself in the English top flight. Signing from PSV Eindhoven for a fee of around £14.5 million, there is already a lot of expectation surrounding the Dutch midfielder. Scoring on debut will help settle his nerves and fans will hope that this signing will finally replace the creative spark that has been missing since the departure of Yohan Cabaye.

5. ROBERTO FIRMINO
Liverpool

Whilst his goalscoring record is nothing out of the ordinary, Firmino has shown his potential having made a good impression in the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim. Liverpool have given the 23-year-old a chance to shine in the Premier League and the Brazilian, once returned to full match fitness, will be hoping to buck the trend of South American players underperforming in England. Brendan Rogers has a good record of developing and working with younger players and will be hoping that his new signing, who created the most chances in Germany last term, can provide that much needed flare that his side have missed in previous seasons.

4. DIMITRI PAYET
West Ham

West Ham signed this attacking midfielder from Marseille for an undisclosed eight-figure sum. This seems to be somewhat of a coup for new boss Slaven Bilić, as Payet provided an assist in their incredible opening day victory against Arsenal at the Emirates. Throughout his career, the French midfielder has had an unbelievable assist record and has created 100 goals in just over 300 appearances, and the most in Europe last term. Should he be able to produce the same form in the Premier League, this may just be the creative spark that they lacked when Stewart Downing went off the boil last season.

3. XHERDAN SHAQIRI
Stoke

Having already played in leagues such as La Liga, Serie A and the Raiffeisen Super League, Xherdan Shaqiri is another player that brings a vast amount of experience to Stoke City. Whilst only 23, the Swiss midfielder has scored a hat-trick at a World Cup, has more trophies than most and has played alongside some of the greats. Some may question the rationale of his move to Stoke but that won’t phase Mark Hughes. This is an outstanding signing for City and football fans worldwide will be monitoring his progress.

2. MEMPHIS DEPAY
Man United

At the age of only 21, there is a big expectation being placed on the young Dutchman’s shoulders after his 28 goals last term lit up Dutch football. Not only has he signed for Manchester United from PSV Eindhoven for a figure estimated to be around £25 million but Louis van Gaal has given the winger the famous number 7 shirt. Whilst recent players to wear that shirt have flopped, the Old Trafford faithful will be hoping that the youngster will follow in the footsteps of several greats who have pulled on that shirt; a list which includes George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

1. BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER
Man United

Bastian Schweinsteiger is already a household name as one of the footballing greats. The German central midfielder made 500 appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring 68 goals, assisting 101 and winning over 20 major honours, including eight Bundesligas. He has been at Munich for 13 years, and has previously worked with van Gaal, but has now decided that it is time to move on. The Germany international has won over 100 caps for his country, is their current captain and was an integral part of the 2014 World Cup winning team. Schweinsteiger, 31, is a fantastic signing for Manchester United and has the potential to set the Premier League alight.
