5 Things Every Online Store In Nigeria Must Know by Hynman: 1:22am On Mar 26, 2009 |
Nigerians, just as with any consumer, will purchase goods online if it was available, reliable, economical, informative and secure Available - Online Nigerian shops are few and far between. The few I have found online are not promoted or marketed. The ones that are known via social networks rarely have a decent web presence or integrated payment facilities. If I cannot pay on your website using my bank issued DEBIT card , or can only pay by making a trip to the bank or buying prepaid visa cards - I might find it too complicated & I might not want to buy from your site. Invest in a web programmer, integrate payment systems such as Interswitch Webpay that accepts Nigerian Debit Cards and I might feel like buying something from your website. Reliable - Are you reliable? If a customer tries to contact you by email or phone to ask a question, will you be reached immediately? Do you deliver goods within the timescale stated on your website? Is your website always 'down'? Are all he links on your website working? Economical - Is your product affordable. Can you compete with Market prices? Is it good value for money? It will be hard for me to pass on a TM Lewin shirt sold online in your shop for N6,500 plus free delivery. Are your prices better whilst still retaining quality and making profit Secure - Can I tust your website to keep my personal information private? Are the pages secured by a ssl certificate? Have you put measures in place to combat fraud (such as only delivering goods to the card's registered address and requesting proof of ID if need be )? Informative - Does your website have an online presence? Is it marketed? Do the Nigerians on facebook, nairaland, naijapals etc know about you? Do you use your website and Newsletters to update customers weekly? Are the prices displayed clearly? Is there a FAQ page that answers all questions I may have about shopping on your site? An online business in Nigeria is possible, but it is by no means an easy feat. |
