Manama: Saudi social media users have poured scorn on a fatwa that allowed young men married to ugly women to take drugs before intimate relations in order to have the delusion they are as beautiful as houris.

The fatwa said that hallucinogenic drugs can be taken for 30 minutes during sexual intercourse and only by men who are less than 40 years old. The drugs can be used only in the evening, it added.

“This is the ideal men who are unfortunately married with ugly-looking wives so that they can see them, under the effects of the drugs, as beautiful women, like Houris or lovely nymphs,” the fatwa said.

Houri is a Quranic term referring to “to be beautifully dark-eyed” women in heaven.

The origin of the religious edict is not known, although some users attributed it to a Moroccan figure, but it went viral on the Internet and sparked a huge debate in which most people expressed shock and sarcasm.

Suroor, a blogger, said that drugs should never be allowed, regardless of the reason.

"This fatwa is utter nonsense,” she said. “The men who believe their wives are not good looking and need to live an illusion, even if it is for fleeting minutes, can simply switch off the light and use their imagination to think she is a superstar,” she said.

Dayem said the person behind the fatwa must be high on drugs when he issued it, even if it was for fun.

“This means that we will next have a fatwa that says infidelity and cheating are permissible if they help solve marital problems,” he said.

For Hala, ugliness is not physical, but moral.

“When we talk about an ugly person, we should mean deficiency in moral standards and good manners, and not in good looks,” he said. “This fatwa is so ridiculous that it should not be dignified with comments,” he added.

A Winnipeg man who allegedly assaulted his wife in front of police and told an officer he could do what he wants with “his property” is now fighting a bail order banning him from having any contact with the woman.

“Even if her wish was to have contact with (the accused), the Crown would be strongly opposed to any variation of the bail,” Crown attorney Vuk Mitrovic told court Wednesday.

In the presence of police, the accused “was undeterred in committing an assault on his wife,” Mitrovic said. “The attitude he demonstrated … should cause the court grave concern about the safety and protection of the public.”

The accused, who is not being identified to protect the identity of the alleged victim, was arrested June 24 after police responded to a 911 call from his family’s Lorne Avenue apartment.

The man has filed a motion to remove a bail condition prohibiting him from living with his wife and nine children pending resolution of his charges.

“I have been away from my home and my family (for over a month),” the man told court through an interpreter. “This is a problem according to my faith to be away from my family.”

Court was told the family fled their native Iraq for Syria before arriving in Winnipeg last February. The family suffered persecution from terrorist groups including al-Qaida. While in Syria, one of the man’s children was kidnapped and held for ransom.

“The family is very strong in the Islamic religion and they have very strong cultural beliefs,” said defence lawyer Lincoln Atten. “The family is suffering on a daily basis. At one point, (the accused) was sleeping in a park near the home just to be close to his family.”

Police were called to the man’s home after a report of a 911 hang-up call, Mitrovic told court. The man’s wife, who only speaks Arabic, indicated through hand gestures that he had hit her in the eye.

Police were searching the man’s clothing when his wife kissed one of the officers on the hand, Mitrovic said. The accused then “grabbed her by the throat and violently shoved her.”

Police arrested the man and took him into custody. In an interview with an Arabic-speaking police officer, the man said “he wanted to be locked up in a mental hospital and the key thrown away as he didn’t know what he would do to his wife,” Mitrovic told court.

“He also said he doesn’t agree with Canadian laws and that his wife is his property and he can do what he wants with her,” Mitrovic said….

Primary school pupils in the West Midlands have been identified as potential terrorists after they were caught drawing bombs in class and writing alarming messages.


Seven under-12s have been placed on a list of those at risk of radicalisation or extremism.

They join 94 teenagers who have also been singled out since 2012. As well as worrying behaviour in school, youngsters are placed on the list if they or their families are known to associate with suspected fanatics.


The revelations were today described as ‘truly shocking’ by South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson. He said: “It is alarming that children at such a young age are at threat of radicalisation and that intervention is having to be taken to prevent attacks.

“Not only is it truly shocking, but these figures show the enormous scale of the problem our police and security services face.”

Those reporting the youngsters include teachers, youth workers, social workers, police officers and even their own parents.

The figures – released under Freedom of Information law – reveal that 242 people, including 101 under-18s, from the West Midlands, Staffordshire, West Mercia and Warwickshire areas were referred to the government’s anti-terrorism programme. The Express & Star obtained details from the National Police Chiefs Council.

The Express & Star asked councils in the Black Country for numbers referred to the anti-terrorism programme, which is called Channel. Dudley Council rejected the request, saying disclosure would lead to a ‘perceived’ lack of confidentiality and lead to a ‘disengagement’ with the programme.

Wolverhampton council said it did not hold the information, Walsall Council said it was trying to confirm whether it had the figures, but even if it did they would not be released. Sandwell Council asked for more time to answer the request.

The National Police Chiefs Council said: “The greatest threat the UK currently faces is from terrorists who claim to act in the name of Islam, and who target Muslims. Therefore prevention activity predominately takes place in and with Muslim communities.”

Meanwhile, the Express & Star reveals today that Britain’s biggest travel firms are selling holidays to Tunisia despite the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advising against travel. Thomson and First Choice owner TUI has said the terrorist massacre had cost the firm up to £32 million.

Kurdish forces of the Peshmerga found three mass graves of Yezidi victims in the northern countryside of Shingal area, north Iraq, following the withdrawal of the ISIS militants.

A source from the Peshmerga command said that the recently found mass graves contained more than 70 corpses of Yezidi victims, including women and children, “who have been buried by ISiS militants after being summarily executed in northern Shingal”.

“After our (Peshmerga) forces liberated the northern parts of Shingal, we discovered those mass graves,” the source said. “We are still searching the area to reveal the remnants of the barbaric crimes committed by Daesh (IS).”

The dead bodies of the Yezidi victims were moved by the Peshmerga to a graveyard in Shingal in a funeral ceremony attended by the Prime Minister of Iraqi Kurdistan, Nechervan Barzani, and some Yezidi officials.

Yezidi politician Fatih Aziz said: “This is a new evidence on the Yezidi tragedy caused by Daesh terrorists. Finding those mass graves has depended our pain.”

“Yezidis are exposed to all kinds of brutal practices by terrorists for their Kurdish ethnic affiliation and their religious believes,” he said.

Thousands of Yezidis are still held by the terrorist group; most of them are women who have been taken by ISIS militants as sex slaves.

A young Christian woman has been sentenced by a court in Sudan to 20 lashes and a fine for "indecent dress," her lawyer said. Her crime? Wearing trousers.

Fardos Al-Toum, age 19, was one of 10 young women students arrested outside a church in Khartoum on June 25 for wearing jeans and long shirts, according to the group's lawyer, Muhamad Mustafa.

When Al-Toum showed up to court to answer the charge, the judge said the clothing she was wearing then was also indecent and sentenced her to an additional fine, plus 20 lashes, the lawyer said.

Mustafa said he had lodged an appeal against the lashes, but it is still pending, with no scheduled decision at the moment.

Five of the women were ordered to pay fines. Two of them, including Al-Toum, had to pay 500 Sudanese pounds (about $82) and three were told to pay 50 pounds.

Four of them were cleared of the charge and immediately released. One other is due to stand trial on Sunday.

Rights group Amnesty International has started an online campaign in the United Kingdom asking people to add their name to a letter to the Sudanese authorities in support of Al-Toum. More than 40,000 people have already done so.

"Flogging and other forms of corporal punishment should never be used as punishment -- they constitute torture, and should not be inflicted as part of a justice system," the rights group said.

"Moreover, these women have committed no crime -- they have instead been subjected to random, vaguely worded, discriminatory laws."

According to Amnesty International UK, the women were accused of violating Article 152 of Sudan's 1991 Criminal Act, which forbids "indecent or immoral dress" and carries a punishment of up to 40 lashes and a fine.

Although the law can be applied equally to men or women, the rights group says, in practice "it is disproportionately women who are discriminated against" under it.

The women arrested outside the Evangelical Baptist Church in Khartoum North are aged from 17 and 23, and come from the Nuba Mountains in South Kordofan state, where many of Sudan's Christian minority live, Amnesty International said.

The vast majority in Sudan are Muslim, with Christians making up only about 3% of the population, the rights group said.

It's not the first time the treatment of Christians in Sudan has sparked international controversy.

Last year, Mariam Yehya Ibrahim was sentenced to death in Sudan for refusing to renounce her Christian faith, after she was found guilty of charges pf apostasy, or leaving Islam and converting to Christianity, and adultery.

She was subsequently cleared, freed and allowed to travel to the United States -- but not before she had given birth in prison while shackled.

There are four sharia laws governing women’s behaviour to prevent male arousals and her status in case she gets raped.

1. SHARIA LAW OF STAYING HOME

Woman must stay home to avoid exposure to na-mahrams.

Quran says:

33.33 “Stay quietly in your homes”

.In his tafsir- quran , Maulana Mohiuddin says “It is not only forbidden to get out of the house, but it is also HARAM to go out of her house”.

2. SHARIA LAW OF LEAVING HOME UNDER COMPULSION

If a woman must leave home under absolute compulsion like escaping fire , she must cover herself fully in a chador or burqa and must always be accompanied with an adult mehram ( preferably carrying an open sword)

Quran says:

33.59 (Hilali and Khan) O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils) all over their bodies (i.e.screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way) when leaving home (under compulsion)..

An excellent example to implement this aya and the applicable sharia law was displayed by diligent Saudi religious police . They prevented unveiled (and unaccompanied by mehrams) young women from escaping a burning school building by beating them back with sticks. Most of them died with their honor in tact, thanks to these pious muslims.

3. SHARIA LAW OF RAPE

In case a woman gets raped , she is considered guilty of adultery unless she can provide four adult muslim male witnesses who had watched the action and who would testify that the sex was actually forced on her and that she was not a willing partner in it. If she has only female witnesses in case she was raped by an intruder in front of her fellow wives and slave girls or in a women’s dormitory full of women witnesses then she is out of luck. Her punishment is stoning to death if she is married or hundred (100) lashes if single.

A 19 year old girl was gang raped repeatedly by six momins in Saudi Arabia recently and was given a punishment of 200 lashes and six months prison ( the punishment was increased because it was a gang rape)

4.SHARIA LAW OF SEX WITH CAPTURED WOMEN

Allah has made sex with captured women and slave girls (right hand possessions) halal in quran by five ayas (4.3, 4.24, 23.6,33.50,70.30). Thus when a rape victim is imprisoned awaiting stoning or lashings or any other woman is incarcerated for any other reason she qualifies as a captured woman and sex with her becomes halal . There are two units for the women in the Evin Prison: the unit of solitary confinement which is under the men's section and situated right next to the foothills in the furthest north of prison and the public unit which is closer to the entrance gate of the prison. When I was in the Evin prison, I could see that the women were transported to and from their solitary confinement to the other places (like the office of the prison) by men who pushed them around with a piece of stick. During my years of imprisonment, I came to know that the male prison officials had sexual relations with the inmates or raped them (if resisted).
