Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has approved 70% of the internally generated revenue for the upkeep of hospitals.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Olurotimi Ojo, who spoke at the Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the state branch of Nigerian Medical Association, reiterated the commitment of the government to provision of affordable and qualitative health care system.
Ojo said to achieve the target, the Fayose led administration would provide conducive and healthy working environment for health professionals and indeed the entire workforce in the system.
He urged doctors in the state to work with the government to improve the health indices.
Ojo described the theme of the conference as appropriate, stressing that the topics discussed including “Infectious diseases- challenges and recent advances in management” as well as “Sudden death- current trend and prevention” were germane.
He noted that in spite of the paucity of funds, the incumbent regime was able to secure accreditation for the Ekiti State College of Medicine, accreditation of Obstetrics and Gyneacology and Ophthalmology units of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, just as the administrative block of the School of Nursing has been completed.
The commissioner commended them for their past leadership roles at various times, especially in combating deadly diseases like Ebola, Bird Flu and HIV/AIDS.
Other activities of the conference include exhibition of medical and scientific equipment and commissioning of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) building along Iyin road by the National president, Nigeria Medical Association.
