Hi guys, i have always loved dogs but unfortunately i never owned one but lately i found myself always refreshing the nairaland pets section.
SO i have finally decided to get myself a dog, starting with a female pure breed GSD (German Sherperd)

So i need advice on what to do, what to feed her, what and what to buy, how often should i take her to the vet, i have been studying courses on how to train her already,

Please just drop any advice that will help in terms of feeding and making her an obedient girl. Still thinking of what to name her, she will be coming in before the end of next week.

bros easy now, im not asking u to come and judge the dog lol im just asking for tips on how to take care of the dog in terms of what to feed it and if there are any thing i should get before the dog comes in

nursing a puppy is very easy my brother.
1. commitment 2. finance 3.perseverance

your puppy needs a lot of protein. the cheapest sources for ever remain fish and egg.

avoid getting salt, onion, garlic, avocado, chocolate into the food...its dangerous to them. apart from these and other poisonous items ...anything goes

a crate of egg is worst case 800 naira ...thats 30 days
a kilo of sharwa will be around 500naira and a carton should be around 8k.


get indomie waste or rice, boil the fish (sharwa) for few minutes with like 2 cups of water, once the fish is boilled, add around 2 to 3 handful of indomie waste to it(the boiled water). mix it together, add few drops of palm oil. serve to dog.

feed your puppy at least 3 times a day till around 6 months.

deworm promptly, vaccinate when due and add multi vitamins

prevent people with dogs from touching your puppy. may infect your puppy. or get like 1 litre of methylated spirit, ask anyone to rinse the hands before touching your puppy (if they must, especially when they have dogs too)

Most importantly, love your dog. a lot of people here will always call your dogs names, dont let it get to you. most of them have nothing to show

Can I serve my puppy frozen chicken(as in the boiled ones)

by all means..YES.

you can cut out into pieces for smaller puppies, use pieces as treats when playing and training the puppy. you can leave like a chicken's drumstick for them to play with and train their teeth

Protein is the building block of these dogs...have it in good quantity to thier food, exercise them regularly, and most importantly prevent deceases (vaccinate, deworm, maintain good hygiene, supervise/ monitor everything closely and quickly act once you discover or suspect anything).

read up on your breed, learn from forum and friends, have a mentor (if you can find).

wash the place with bleach and water.. let it dry completely.

it should be fine. a small sachet of hypo or any other bleach can do the job.
