The Post Master General (PMG) of the Federation Malam Ibrahim Bori Baba yesterday retired from service and handed over to the Deputy Post Master General (engineering and technical) Architect Enoch Ade Ogun, who is the most senior official in the postal agency.
Speaking with journalists at a valedictory ceremony in Abuja yesterday the outgoing PMG decried non usage of postage stamp by financial institutions which he said “is making the country to lose N1trillion on a yearly basis.”
He said financial institutions are shortchanging the country by failing to append N10 stamp on the financial instruments and letters they send.
He also revealed that NIPOST under him was able to intercept 258,207 scam mails worth N125.2billion between 2006 and 2014.
In 2006, he said, NIPOST intercepted 9,435 scam mails worth N11bn while 7,831 scam mails with monetary worth of N27.8bn were intercepted in 2007.
Malam Bori Baba said NIPOST was able to intercept the fraudulent documents through its collaboration with security agencies like the Nigeria Police, Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Directorate of State Service (DSS), the Nigerian Customs Service and the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom.
Mr Ogun will hold the post till the substantive PMG is named. Other Deputy Post-Master Generals who are contesting for the post are: Osadolor Eboigbodin (mail operations), Richard Balami (special duties), Chibiri Ndahi (human resources management), Joseph Ariyo (finance and investment), and Emmanuel Emem (counter operations).
