qdlvy: You are correct.. But did you notice the listing price for that house Like I said before, people do have lawns like this in Nigeria but they are not average Nigerians it is expensive to maintain.. Even in L.A, anyone that could afford a house like this can afford to pay someone to manicure the lawns for them. It is a beautiful concept, magnificent but it takes a lot of work and could add extra maintenance cost to a homeowner which average Nigerian might not be able to keep up with.. 4 Likes |

Badgers14: No be only manicure na pedicure.... Mowing lawn is very easily, as a matter of fact most people do it themself. The only problem is, we are waiting for someone to start it first. Nigerian weather is green friendly and during dry season u can jse electric sprinklers or use the locally made shower kettle to water the lawn. When am build my personal home it's definitely going to be mostly green. 5 Likes |

gbadexy: The dude has the look of a slicky rogue! His statements would atleast show how he spent some of the money if his dad passed on for real. Again someone who lost his dad during lockdown shouldnt spend 3M on burial when he know he can just lay him to rest with a small gathering and use the remainder of the money to carry out some of its intended purpose. It's so unfortunate he can't be banned here, he will come back with a different alias waiting for his next prey. 3 Likes |

Badgers14: I have a great one but it’s not cheap to maintain. It takes a lot of planning and cost so much to maintain here. Pic 1 - Perimeter Drain Pic 2 - Concrete Driveway Pic 3 - Green Area Pic 4 - Another Green Area I never had issues with the driveway design but maintaining the lawn. 1 Like

I just recently uprooted 2 mature coconut to create space for planting pepper. Landscaping is great though but it takes a lot to raise a great one.

This might help some people in managing their contractors and artisans. I designed this few years ago and it has really worked for me. 2 Likes 1 Share

coldcandy:I don't know how to explain this thing to you oga. My work is per your requirement. Iron comes in different sizes and quality. What you want is different from what another person wants. There's 1mm to 5mm pan and same thing goes about pipes too. There's no way they can all be same prices. There are also different types of pipes from wrought to the usual ones we all use. These things affect the prices. If there's something I posted that you like, contact me and we will see how we can make it fall into your budget. I don't sell finished products like cars rather I buy raw materials to make them so I can't pretty much fix the price. Your choice is what determines my price. Thanks for your understanding. About the transport issue, my location maybe far from you but it's close to another person. Just like you say Nnewi is far from you, that's how I feel about you being far from me but one advantage I have is that Nnewi is a transport hub due to the Nkwo market. A door from here to Lagos is less than 3k and I know this, even with the addition of transport fare, it's cheaper than what they sell in places like Lagos and Ogun State. Why not contact me and we will work things out And about my job, it will definitely come. No rushing in this life 6 Likes |

alstacs: When I receive quotations like this, I always check for ambiguity. An aluminium guy once sent me a quote and asked for 8 packets of drilling bits. There are 10 pcs in a pack For owner-builders, don’t be shy to question every details. I gave him just 2 pcs for the project and he used only 1. 3 Likes 1 Share

sinorte: @egunmogaji2 mentioned it here https://www.nairaland.com/2745049/construction-journal-browne-mews-nexthome/3#40633415 Take it easy on your plumber. He’s a Nigerian and you sure know a typical naija man has a fixed mindset of “this-is-how-we-do-it” A typical naija builder believes alternative solutions must be a lot more expensive. Edit: I thought you said your plumber has been discouraging you from using it. My apologies for misconstruing your msg. Give him extra credit for recommending it sir. 2 Likes 1 Share

Nero2424:I didn't really notice him on this forum before now but statements testifying he has been having problem with clients over a couple of years shows he has issues and wasn't willing to change his mode of operation. For a client to have the confidence to give him such huge sum means he seemingly exude confidence and knowledge on what he does and he would still have made a honest and significant profit from the overall deal. In fact he could even make the whole sum in months with consistent such deals. I take such cases personal because here is a person that has a platform to make very good legitimate business on a platter of gold but chose to squander it and spoil chances for other genuine contractors and business person. I think we would like to know the conclusion of the case. Strong statements should be made as a deterrent to show nobody can escape justice and there's price for every action. I think like some elders have been doing, anyone with unpleasant experience or information about a contractor or artisan should call them out periodically to alert others not only because of business transactions but to warn against consultations and suggestions that could adversely affect others. 4 Likes |

n3xt: Thank you for your response. I seem to be a bit lost at it though. My posture had been that my plumber says he would be using a chamber. I've also just read here that, perhaps, chambers are 'not good' and outdated. So I'm asking please, which one is better to use? And what's the best way to apply it. The building is a duplex. |

sinorte: Now I get it. The pics below shows different types of inspection chambers. The conventional method of using brick, cement and slab (Pic. 1) and then there’s the PVC inspection chamber (Pic. 2 & 4) and of course there’s precast manholes (Pic. 3) too. If you ask a plumber why he’s using brick, his explanation will be “that’s how it’s done” or “it’s the best way.” Now ask the same person what can the brick type of inspection chamber do that a PVC type can’t do. Also considering the time, effort and the installation costs, a PVC inspection chamber is a cheaper alternative and lot more reliable option for modern builds. It’s pretty easier to install PVC inspection chambers. You don’t have to break slabs to inspect the chamber in case there’s blockage. You just need to open the lid and that’s it. No stress or sweat. 1 Like

n3xt: Chief, can you please explain how this chamberless system can be achieved. My site engineer is already talking about chambers for the building. Even the architect put chambers in the design. If this I'd a cheaper and more reliable option, I'll definitely love to implement it. 1 Like |

n3xt: Thank you so much. You'll make a great teacher. Now still on this lesson on chambers, can we explore the uses? How many am I supposed to be looking at in the building? Kindly note that I have two waste pipes running separately from the first floor, and then another two different rest rooms again on the ground floor. |

sinorte: Smiling. The quantity you’ll need is already in your M&E plan. If you don’t have one, a very good plumber can help you with that. These stuffs are dirt cheap. N3500 - N6000 depending on thickness and sizes. I use 6in for the inspection chamber. |

JustCryptos: Whether pvc, precast concrete or block type, they’re all inspection chamber and you’re definitely going to need one. The only difference is you’re replacing the brick chambers with PVC. Nothing more. The pipe network remains the same. |

Abolarin91: You see I was like this too when I was in America. Making grand plans and plots. Living in Nigeria for the past 18 months has clued me in to different things. There’s a reason farmers go to farms and not farm next to their houses, mostly. My landscaping is limited to flowers and strategically placed specific trees. I have about 25 trees that I have on my 2 plots. The central courtyard has two palm trees. But in any case we’re all free to pursue our happiness. Happy Sunday. I feel like going fishing today. 2 Likes |
