Qc1: Rafting alone in swampy areas could suck up to and more. For my fence alone I spent 1million for rafting and approx 900k for the fence. Then imagine what the building rafting would cost. |

@gurus in the house Can you please advice on the problem a is facing below? Compound which is designed sloping backwards (i.e. the back is filled less than the front), hence during rainfalls, the water collects at the back of the compound. There are mini collector pits around the back which take the surface water and channel it outside through a large 12 inch pipe. However, during really heavy rains, this solution is not sufficient as everywhere is wet. Has anyone experienced this? What is the best way of dealing with this water? The land is the muddy type. Will a temporary surface holding tank work to temporarily hold the water during heavy rainfalls? Please advice o! |

Can any geotechnical engr/builder shed some light on cost of performing soil sample test in the Southeast ,Nigeria. Typical cost per hole punched to get samples. How many soil samples or holes are punched per plot to collect samples This post has been enlightening . quote author=segcymoor post=45009680] Soil test only for storey building. ------- It may be strange to know that even fence may required Pilling as well as bungalow. So soil test is not meant for storey building[/quote] |

EgunMogaji: EgunMogji it will be good if you can come up with any fancy "openable burglary proof" at decent cost. But I will advise you not to be torn and dwell too much on this. It's really not that too much of a problem. Just move your project on. It is a very small fraction of household who die from fire incident because of WINDOW burglary proof that don't open from inside. What kills people during fire incident is the smoke. So invest in smoke and carbon monoxide alarm; make sure your building has minimum two exits: front and back; let there be a smooth flow in your floor plan and design your external protectors (burglary proof) to be openable during emergency and you are good. See Pix below. It's a project of six flats. What I did is to make both front and back entrance protectors up and down stairs openable. Look carefully at the up-stairs pix, you will get my drift. One can also use this for heavy and bulky goods instead of the stairs. 1 Like

abdulwastecx:You took the import of my post out of context, l didnt say God should come and build road, provide security, punish rapist, provide pipe borne water etc, my referring to prayers / religious homes was used in a literary manner and it was pun intended, l know God will not come and fix the country, l was indirectly saying that we hide under prayers but yet the country is still on auto reverse, do l believe in God , Capital YES, but do l wait for him to come and fix my building, No, again, if my roof is leaking, l do not need to start going to a shrine, voodoo priest or anywhere for prayers, l will contact the relevant professional to fix the problem and that is what l was saying in my earlier post 1 Like |

EgunMogaji: I thought that 12 coaches of 9 inch blocks is 9 ft. I really admire your idea of whole house fan and attic venting. I hardly see gable vents on our newer home designs. |
Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by Nobody: 6:31pm On May 15, 2016 |
Juokorow: I think higher than 9 inches but I'm 8,000 miles away. Thank you for the compliment on the design. I'm going back to old school. It's not even about USA, many of the old houses from colonial era, which I admire, have these vents. |

EgunMogaji: I am bit closer to home, ATL vs Cali!!!! Our pre-war home in P.H. had those vented wooden windows!!! US homes with the standard wood frame readily allow for the duct work for central AC and whole house fans, especially for multi floor houses. My challenge on the ongoing design of my village duplex is how to cost-effectively incorporate HVAC ducts for the ground floor beneath a concrete decking. The same challenge affects adoption of central AC at home, even if we had "normal" electricity supply. Any ideas on the whole house fan for a duplex? |

Sallam hajji M.Thank you for the amoula recommendation.I feel bad for mr QC1.I always try not to be judgemental, but i feel brabus need to go on site and try to sort this out with the client.Giving out suggestions on nairaland isn't going to cut it.This is bad for business. He has had too many issues with different clients on nairaland that will give potential clients pause.I have yet to see any issues with spyder here on nairaland.Brabus is obviously doing something wrong, either by not screening out some jobs with potential for conflicts or just being slick. In fairless to brabus also, this should serve as a lesson to future home owners to heed the recommendation of experts when embarking on future construction.I myself have been quilty of that and there is an inherent lesson in this for me as well.My heart really aches for Mr QC1 and i hope this ends well for you sir mufutau55: 4 Likes |

Hello Bosun Davies Shoyoye / Nexthome / Brabus / N3xt etc Today marks the end of the 5th week after the last payment that I received. This is in respect of the fake/forged building plan approval that you did for me. Can you kindly pay the money for this week, as there is still a balance of N200,000 outstanding. Thank you. mavverick: |

Thanks for your quick response!! My mum got a place there and I was saying its kinda far from almost everything we are used to. But she is saying it's gonna get better as the years goes by. Hopefully it's so. Been reading the news about upcoming Mile 12 and the Omo baba saw mill relocation. Jus kinda anxious about other ppl thought(that know the area) about the place.
